Can it cut through pvc or black acrylic sheets? Have you tried cutting them with this machine?

The Orturs are not powerful enough really for cutting. This is just a large area engraving machine ! The wattage of the laser needs to be much higher to really cut anything. I am not saying an engraving head cant, but by the time you get done doing 100 passes, the edge will look dull and a fire may be the only result. Cutting really anything starts with a much more powerful machine.

@@travisclark6407 5.5 W laser is not so weak, hence the question - even with multiple pass wouldn't it be possible to cut through 2-3 mm thick black acrylic sheets?

@@kamilk As I said, you can probably get it cut with enough passes. But the edge of the cut will look like garbage. The whole point of the laser cutting is to obtain a clean edge. So that is the choice. Spend the money to get a laser cutting machine. Obviously if these machines did cutting, there would not be a separate and higher dollar cutting market. Folks, if you are not spending $2000 & up, and the wattage is not closer to 40 watts, you are not cutting anything !!!! The best price I have seen is the Chinese market for light cutting, thinking back, but buying the right K40 and getting all of the safety features is a challenge. You can gamble with $500-600 and get cutting the acrylic, but shop wisely. Stick to brand names, research the manufacturer. Buyer beware on asian K40 lasers always !
