Video of our favorite bear fromt the Country Bear Jamboree at Diseny Magic Kingdom: BIG AL! Singing "Blood on the Saddle" and continues to sing throughout the grand finale...

When I was a little kid, I visited Disneyland's "Country Bears Jamboree" with my family. Always thought there was something both pathetic and hilarious about that depressed, obese bear drawling a country-blues death-ballad while the rest of the ensemble tries to drown him out with an upbeat finale.

Big Al was one of the best and funniest Disney characters ever made. The idea he is tone deaf is hilarious.

Oh these comments are... Hilarious. Big Al was a favorite of mine, and I had a stuffed animal of him after visiting Disneyland, Christmas of 1977. Big Al was the epitome of Americana that represented certain regions in the country that were filled with Country music, bluegrass, and folksinging. Between this attraction and America Sings. Unfortunately, these two attractions are relics of an Era long gone. It was a genuinely wonderful experience as a child.

Okay, for all the new Disney fans who have never experienced the Country Bear Jamboree, this was one of the original opening day attractions at Walt Disney World when it opened in 1971, and still continues to play there. The Disneyland version ran from 1972 to Sept 10, 2001, whereas the Tokyo version opened in 1983 and is also still playing there.

There are three CB shows: the Jamboree, which debuted in 1971 and has a traditional country/western theme; the CB Christmas show, which debuted in 1984 and features classic Christmas songs, as well as original songs written for the show; the final one is the CB Vacation Hoedown, which debuted in 1986 and has a summer/camping theme as the Bears are all dressed in swimsuits or camping gear. The latter show also features their unofficial theme song "The Great Outdoors".

@beasst94 Yeah I grew up with this guy and got to see all three shows. I used to play in my bedroom putting on shows with my stuffed animals to the record. That's how creepy I found Big AL. Tone deaf really describes him. And Clueless too. He's the only one not singing Bear Tracks in the finale. LOL and he's singing walking in a winter wonderland in the dark and stops stunned when the lights come back. LOL

There are 18 bears in the show. They consist of Henry (the host), Trixie (large female), Teddi Barra (female on swing), The Sun Bonnets (Bunny, Beulah and Bubbles), Big Al, Liver Lips McGrowl (big-lipped bear), Ernest (fiddle player; doesn't appear in the finale), The Five Bear Rugs (Zeke, Zeb, Ted, Fred & Tennessee), little Oscar (Zeb's son), Wendell (little bear with overbite), Gomer (pianist) and Terrence (aka Shaker).

@Yoursoul101 I don't think so. Not that I ever saw. The country bears were a stage show at Disneyland. They did three shows at Disneyland. The country bear...1Jamboree ....2Christmas Special ....3Vacation Hoedown The country bear jamboree is currently at Disney World in Florida. They used to have cartoon drawings of them on the walls where you waited to go in the theater. If you're thinking about that country bear movie, it's completely different & doesn't have any of the same bears.

@Yoursoul101 The Country Bears movie came out in 2003 I believe and completely bombed at the box office. Henry, Trixie and Big Al were used, as well as FOUR of the *Five* Bear Rugs: Zeb, Ted, Fred and Tennesee; apparently Zeke had left the band and they named their bus after him. I haven't seen the entire movie, but honestly, why would they name the kid bear Beary instead of, you know, Oscar?
@Miracle490d13 жыл бұрын
@fivebearrugs Well sure. That's what I said. It's just his character. He just can't carry an upbeat note, even on an upbeat song. He's tone deaf and clueless. He's not trying to be depressing. He just can't sing. He doesn't even sing the verse to walking in a winter wonderland. He just repeats the same line in the dark. Then, "HUH?" He's a funny idiott, and loved for it.

@beasst94 I was being sarcastic, to make a point to those that seem to want Big Al boycotted. Too many people knit pick about the littlest things. Disney is as innocent as you can get, but people still find fault. (ex. One thing is racist. This is violent.) I love all these things & it's just sad when creativity is stifled. They changed the lyrics to Aladdin's Arabian Nights song. "They'll cut off your ear if they don't like your face. It's barbaric but hey it's home."-they complained racist :(

@Madnursemii I never paid attention to those words& caught that it was about never giving a kid a whipping. That song ends with... "I think that I'll shoot him instead." Henry "BANG!" And people are more worried about lyrics of blood than lyrics of shooting a little boy instead of whooping him?!!! The blood might be from a horse put out of his misery. Or how bout a deer hunted and killed for food? There weren't frozen meats in markets back then. Does Little House on the Prairie freak people?

@fivebearrugs Okay I was wrong about him not singing a verse. But all the bears had finished the final chorus ending the song after he did his verse. He just repeated "walking in a winter wonderland" twice after it went dark. So he did just repeat the same line over, unless it took him that long to catch up to the end chorus. LOL He's slow.

Cristie Sanquez Send a link
@ZiddersRooFurry8 жыл бұрын
+Cristie Sanquez It's an old Tex Ritter song about a cowboy who gets bucked off his bronco and then the bronco lands on his head, crushing it. It's pretty dark. I think Disney keeps it because its so comically over-exagerrated that most kids don't pick up on how dark it is.
@ZiddersRooFurry8 жыл бұрын
+Cristie Sanquez Also the eyes look human because the character is anthropomorphic. Anthropomorphic means adding human-like features or qualities to animals. In other words cartoons.

@Yoursoul101 ....The country bear movie is nothing like the shows at Disneyland or Disney World. They only gave the bears the same names, but they don't look, sound, or behave at all like the originals. It shouldn't even have the right to be called the Country Bears, but Disney made it. Unlike the Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion movies they put nothing of the real park attraction in the movie.
