It’s funny because as a kid I was terrified of those bears and how out of place they felt in the movie. Like no one reacted, besides the brother, to them being actual living and breathing bears. Let’s be honest. Christopher Walken could have saved this entire movie by pulling a ukulele out from under his shirt. Something like armpit farting the 1812 overture makes it difficult to take his story seriously. With a legitimate musical instrument, the whole movie kind of sympathizes with him to the extent that you can enjoy it on a deeper level. The country Bears won a talent show, and went on to forge a successful career for themselves. If the other guy also had musical aspirations that could have legitimately made him famous, only to have his dreams of music flushed down the proverbial toilet by the fact that talking, singing, and dancing bears with just a little bit more impressive then a talented prodigy, suddenly he’s more of a tragic villain than a crazy one. Just that right amount of depth could’ve made this movie a masterpiece. Arguably better than Pirates of the Caribbean. Much better than the haunted mansion anyway. The haunted mansion actually had depth to it. White supremacist butler goes to hell? That’s awesome.
