The website is awesome achievement. I saw a few episodes from your Livestream in March of last year, but I seem to only be finding the starting process up to the pressure pot. I was hoping to find some of the finished products like from episode 47 and 48 and such. Are there videos showcasing the post cure in any manner or am I missing some posts?

@ZacHiggins2 жыл бұрын
Actually, the logo was super intentional. My favorite part of resin casting is experimenting, so I thought the little bubbling flask was perfect. We'll be doing some more hybrid projects down the road. This year has been kind of a mess for me for a variety of reasons, so I wasn't able to get as much done as I wanted to. Looking forward to next year, and I already have a little spring in my step with the new launch 💪💪💪

@@ZacHiggins , I was gonna ask you… Have you had any sorts of issues getting Alumilite Clear Slow to really adhere to extruded aluminum honeycomb? I’ve had a couple customers who had issues with chip out and was curious if you’ve done any experimentation with acid etching or other methods to create a rougher surface for the resin to adhere to. Inquiring minds want to know…. 😂
@ZacHiggins2 жыл бұрын
@@KevinGroninga3D the bond isn't ideal with any resin really, but I haven't had any significant issues with it or complaints from my customers. I did try some experiments with etching when I was testing out different honeycomb brands (both acid and base etching) and I found that it actually worsened the bond with the product I sell, and there was no difference with the other brands I tested out. I have no experience with etching though, so maybe it's possible to get better results if you know something I don't, but I wouldn't have even considered selling it if people would have been required to etch it. I always stress to my customers the importance of good glue bonds with the tubes as well as taking extreme care when preparing blanks and turning it. Point people to my video on prepping and turning mixed material blanks and glueing tubes in: Prepping mixed material blanks: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gIqwaop-abhrrLs Glueing tubes in: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bma8pnd8Z8Shb7M The other thing I always stress is don't hesitate to douse the blank with super thin CA every now and then during turning. It will just help to ensure that any weak bond areas are held together a bit. Thin CA glue is the pen turners duct tape 😀
@KevinGroninga3D2 жыл бұрын
@@ZacHiggins awesome! I’ll pass this along to my customers that buy the aluminum honeycomb blanks.

Zac, Great new name. Best of luck as you transition the new name into your daily goings on. I have used Alumilite clear and clear slow when using my pressure pot. Recently I’ve been doing resin/wood lazy Susan’s and charcuterie trays and used Alumilite resin (1:1) that didn’t involve a pressure pot. Usually pouring less that 1 inch. When I reordered this last time I ordered Alumilite Deep Pour (2:1 mix ratio). So far I am very disappointed. It’s been over 24 hours and it is still tacky. None of the other Alumilite resins have behaved this way. Which Alumilite resin do you find best for 1” pours? Or do you prefer some other resin manufacturers? Thanks for any info you do. Elling
@ZacHiggins2 жыл бұрын
Hey Elling, sorry to hear that you were frustrated with the Deep Pour. It does have a pretty long setup time, but it's formulated for large volumes like river tables which work best with super slow setting resins. You could try Amazing Clear Cast, but it's drawback is it's on the thick side and 1" could be a little much depending on the total size of the pour. I've been pretty happy with Liquid Diamonds as well, very thin and super clear, it should work ok. Total Boat has a lot of products that may work better (unfortunately I'm not familiar with them myself though). I've been pretty happy with Entropy resins as well. They have a couple versions that should work for that type of project. Lots more out there, but those are the ones I am familiar with. Oh, one other brand that may be worth looking into is Stone Coat Countertops epoxy, they have a few different formulas too, all work well

Do you think that this is a good idea or not? If I dried out a pinecone and sprayed it with a clear shellac and let that dry, can I then pour resin over it to make something or is that a bad idea?
