Pulitzer Opal

5 жыл бұрын

Huge parcel of beautiful rough opal, mined in the 1990s and saved as a retirement fund for the miner. This video was made in order to show the beauty of rough opal from Coober Pedy, but also to assist the aging miner to possibly sell it. The parcel contains nearly 1 kg (2.2 lbs) -- actually, 929 grams of solid fire.

I remember Angelo's run very well! There was at least 20-30 locals noodling on the big elevator dumps every day for several months while he worked the big two slips that were carrying the opal. Each day, each noodler would sell jars for between 500 and $1000 each! Each Day Angelo would come up from below and tell them 'No noodling!' but would never be too annoyed and they would be there again the next day. The maths on what came off his dumps is staggering.. That spot started the massive rush that was featured on the ducumentary 'Opal Fever' An old Hungarian opal buyer named Gypsy Les bought most of the opal. One of the most notable finds in Coober Pedy of the 90's for sure and probably dwarfs any except for a few Opal Valley finds over the last 20 years. Love your work mate!
