I've been tying a similar pattern for a couple years now. Usually on a size 4 streamer hook. It does a pretty good job weeding out the bluegills that nip at a medium hopper but man oh man it's awesome when a big ole ditch donkey bass blows it up

Yeah I’m waiting for that to happen! Haha! I’ve had a few hits so far but nothing big enough to eat it. It will happen!

Thanks! And I know right? Weird looking bugs out this way!

Nice fly. Now we need to see you use your new fishing license and catch some of those big ol' Texas-sized large mouth, or better yet some trout. Good luck and keep the videos coming.

Yes, I went fishing today, video will be out shortly.

Wow! That fly looks good enough to eat!……………I guess that’s the idea! I bet this would work really well as a hopper/dropper at Six Lakes. The yellow is rally easy to see and the foam lets it float right side up. Well done Shawn! Hope you nail some of those Tejano bass on that fly.

Thanks! Yeah I actually improved it more I think, I’m gonna release that video “the bass hopper 2.0” soon... I tweaked it more after making the video and am very happy with the new fly.

I would try a wider gap hook,it might be hard hooking a bass with such a small gaped hook
@McFlyAngler5 жыл бұрын
No, not at all! I think it’s fine. I’ll let you know if I have any trouble, but I’ve fished poppers with less gap that caught many large bass.

My brother hooked an 8 pound bass on a size 10 stimulator while bluegill fishing. The bass were earring grasshoppers on the side because the ponds edge had just been mowed. Something like this would have killed!

Did he land it?
@zeroedinwithzeke40595 жыл бұрын
2 Chainz Nope! It was one of the bass I had named. Her name is split, because part of her back is torn. Caught and weighed her 4 months before and got 8 pounds 3 oz. The bass just kind of slowly swam off, jumped, and broke the line. It was awesome to watch it come up and sip a dry fly!

That sounds like a whole load of fun! Man! I’m hoping to get a good bass this year!

Great fly, that thing looks unsinkable. Do you ever have problems with the hook set or keeping fish on? Just looks like there isn't enough exposed hook...anyways love the channel keep up th great work! Ps if your ever in az hit me to fish
@McFlyAngler5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes it was unsinkable. Yes I had trouble hooking fish on it today but that is because it was a small fish they couldn’t fit it in it’s mouth. (A sunfish). If a good sized bass hit it, it would have been just fine. As for the exposed hook, there is more than with most dry flies, since it’s tied on such a large hook. Most dries I used to fish in Colorado were size 14-20, and if you have a millimeter of hook you are lucky. Haha! The only thing I’d worry about with hookset is the thickness of the hook wire, but that’s why I used a sharp hook and a rather thin (yet strong) streamer hook. Thanks man! Glad you like the channel, I’ll let you know for sure. Just not sure if or when i will make it there. Good fishing anywhere?

I love tying foam hoppers but I never catch anything with them.
@McFlyAngler5 жыл бұрын
Oh I do! One of my largest producers in Colorado was a Chernobyl ant, which is basically a foam hopper.
@farmerbob45545 жыл бұрын
McFly Angler You did well at Six Lakes on Chernobyl Ant! My opinion is you need to “skitter” hoppers to make them effective as attractors and to induce strikes.

Austin France Stick with it Austin. I carried hoppers for years until I started to catch with them. It’s about time of the year and conditions. Stick with it. You’ll get them to produce!
@RustyShacklefardd5 жыл бұрын
McFly Angler I love using them for droppers as my indicator because they don’t sink. I fish Hiwassee primarily, that rainbows tend to be small to medium size. The browns are illusive here unless you throw streamers.
@McFlyAngler5 жыл бұрын
Yes I do remember how well the Chernobyl worked at 6 lakes! That was phenomenal.
