Stephen A. Smith says "Big Ben stayed two years too long." / For that to be true, whoever replaced him would have had to do better than 21 wins, 11 losses, 2 for 2 in playoff berths, an 11-game winning streak, and an AFC North crown. About 90% of NFL QB's would have been hard pressed to do any better with that offensive line.

You have to compare QB's WITHIN AN ERA. 95% of 2022 QB's "have better stats" than Terry Bradshaw because 99% of rule changes since the 1970's have weakened defenses and benefitted offenses. I think Big Ben was better also, but the reason isn't an unfair "statistical comparison" between eras. The reason is because Terry Bradshaw played for a team with about 10 Hall Of Famers on it and another 2 or 3 that probably should be. Ben's supporting cast was "good". Terry's was insane.

Bradshaw won 4 Super Bowls to Big Ben's 2...and that matters. That being said, THE original TB12 was surrounded by great players whom stayed togethor before free agency. Harris, Bleier, Swann, Stallworth and the greatest defense of all time (take that 85 Bears). Big Ben also played with great players like Miller, Brown, Bettis, Ward, etc. And like Bradshaw he too had great defenses to back him up. The difference to me is Big Ben won with different players. Unfortunately Big Ben had to go head to head against Manning and Brady who are arguably the 2 best to ever play QB. And I know Bradshaw had wars with Stabler and the Raiders and the Dolphins were pretty good too as were the Oilers once they got Campbell. But those teams don't measure up to Brady's Patriots nor Manning's Colts in my opinion. The Ravens with that defense were also in the mix. And that's why I give the nod to Big Ben cuz I feel though he only won half the Super Bowls Bradshaw did he did more with less. As a die hard Steeler fan I am just glad they both played their entire careers with Pittsburgh...

Strictly from a fan perspective, and with my tongue FIRMLY in my cheek .....🙂 Having watched the entire careers of both Bradshaw and Big Ben, it's Terry Bradshaw. Trying to determine the "BEST" of anything MUST come down to pure numbers. Mainly, the Number of Championships won. Period, and done. Maybe Ben had a different demeanor in the locker room, dressed "cooler", could throw the ball farther, more accurate, or had LAZERBEAMS coming our of his eyes. Even if he had better stats in every category than Terry Bradshaw, .. how many super bowls were won? Is this not the ULTIMATE MEASURE of Greatness? Especially in Professional Sports? There is a tendency in this modern, hi tech, instant information age to DISCOUNT the great athletes of bygone days, especially by a generation of 20, 30 or 40 - something year olds who never saw a Bill Russell play basketball, or Pele' even kick a soccer ball. Never saw Pistol Pete Maravich do things with a basketball that the Globetrotters could only DREAM of doing. So, of COURSE the fresh, modern Stars MUST be the BEST at their crafts. Nikola Jokic MUST BE "light years" better than Wilt Chamberlain. REALLY? REALLY??? Perhaps. But Perhaps NOT. So .... who is better; Kyrie Irving or Pete Maravich?????? :-) OF course it's Maravich. Right????? It will always be subjective. And that's fine. But if Ryan Clark (whom I LOVE to hear his commentaries and greatly respect his opinions) thinks that Big Ben is the best Steeler ever, he has a right to his opinion. But that's all it will ever be, is his opinion. In fact, if Ben and Terry's time in the NFL were "Flipped" so that Ben played during Terry's time, and vice versa, I strongly believe Ryan's opinion would be that Bradshaw was the best. Now I obviously can't ACTUALLY control Ryan's choices, but my OPINION is that he would flip his choice. ESPECIALLY IF Bradshaw's 4 Super Bowl victories were newer and more recent ... "Fresh in the minds" of people. And replayed a Gazillion times on social media!!! I Love it. These kind of things - Wholesome Bantering back and forth, is what makes it all Extremely Entertaining, Enjoyable ... and LUCRATIVE for everyone who makes money from it all.. As well as every Sports fan from EVERY GENERATION. In closing, a question for R.C. ...... Word Association ..... If I say "Cowboys", who pops into your head first? Staubach or Aikman. Or maybe "Bullet" Bob Hayes?? Tom Landry or Jimmy Johnson? Ha ha. Dorsett or Smith????? Charlie Waters or Deion?????? On and on we go! (Oooops .... Robert Horry won 7 Rings, and M.J. only 6. So of COURSE that means ..... Bill Russell is the best EVER (Played 13 years, 12 Championship games; Won 11 of them) ............................................. 🙂

Bradshaw won 4 Super Bowls so he's the better winner, but Ben has better stats Take your pick: Rings or stats?
@bigoj79173 жыл бұрын
Stats because Bradshaw didn’t win those rings solely by himself. Put another other elite QB of that era on the 70s Steelers and you’d get the same result.

Big Ben was good, but Terry Bradshaw was the king with help from Noll, Noll knew how to pick people who would help Terry win games, Terry had an arm like a Cannon with the same accuracy. Big Ben could get you down to the red zone but half of his attempts to get in where fails. While with Terry's arm he didn't have to get into the red zone, he got down to the 40 and that was all it took with his arm. I would take Terry Bradshaw any day of the week then Big Ben. (how many Super Bowls did Terry and Noll have in how long, now that is football with a team playing football) .

Some people know football some don't Terry Bradshaw had better players around him but he wasn't the quarterback that Big Ben was if Big Ben had played with the Steelers 70 team he would have 6 or 7 💍
@80steen443 жыл бұрын
Regardless of who's better you're showing your lack of NFL history knowledge. Bradshaw played in an era where you could chuck the reciever past 5 yds and there were no defenseless reciever rules. Ben was drafted by a team that had plenty of pieces, Bradshaw was drafted by the worst team in NFL history and thrown to the wolves with zero talent and those early years is the bulk of his interceptions. Once he had talent he called his own plays, won a league MVP, 2 Super Bowl MVPs and 4 Super Bowls in 6 years, back to back twice. He has a whopping 112.8 Super Bowl passer rating. You've never watched Bradshaw's highlights.
@whitewhale90123 жыл бұрын
Ben wouldn't have had the luxury of watching all the great QBs that influenced his development if he played in the 70s. Plus his play style likely would have caused him far more injury issues as savage as defenses were back then. "We all stand on the backs of giants". Do you understand what I mean? Ben wouldn't be ben without the giants of the game.
@jamesanthony56813 жыл бұрын
If it were possible to have just one QB on the 1970's Steelers, who do you have, Terry or Ben? I have Terry. What about the Steelers from 2004-2021, Terry or Ben? I give the edge to Terry because of his arm, in a pass-first era.

SAS, we get it. You are ESPN. Not only did you not answer the question, but OG... you don't have to poke the bear with your takes, and follow it up with an explanation of why you're right. This is one of those moments (along with the Kobe/Kyrie segment) where it just ain't the time or place. Give it up to a hall of fame career and call it a day.

"Being the greatest passer in the NFL, that could be great for the player individually, but still, it is what you can accomplish while you are doing these things that make you a top-notch football player." Terry Bradshaw was a better winner of the big game. Terry Bradshaw was tougher (slightly) than Ben and ran faster/harder. Ben was more consistent. Ben was better at making 4th quarter comebacks. I rather have Ben for the regular season. I rather have Terry for the super bowl.
