Sounds amazing. Did you have to hit the headers or did they went in clean?
@abolishwelfare

The headers fit without having to dent them. I’ve heard stories of people having to dent them to clear upper control arms, but I had adequate clearance. I have a seven quart Milodon oil pan that made the install super tight. It should not be too hard to install them with a standard size oil pan.

I’m having a hard time with mine but on right lower side. I got the hooker 2455 as I heard they would fit better with no problems.

@@N1K333 I used the 2455 in my swap because I liked the price and the lack of slip joints over the 2241 swap headers...the drivers side only required a few small dents but the passenger side was a nightmare...after basically hammering that front pipe flat to try and clear the control arm bracket I finally ended up cutting out the bend of the front pipe and putting a new 90 degree piece in that came down in front of the lower control arm mount. Hopefully you got yours figured out!

How the heater box by the vale covers
@abolishwelfare

It’s stupid tight. I’m running T&D Machine shaft rockers so I am using stock height valve covers with 0.375” ICT billets spacers. Pulling the passenger side valve cover is a pain. I’m using valve cover studs instead of bolts so that helps. A couple of 1/4” universal joints, an extension or two some masking tape to help hold the nut on the socket, plus some cussing and I can pull the valve cover. I’m running hydraulic rollers, so valve adjustments aren’t that frequent. I’d never recommend keeping the heater box with a big block with solid lifters and the associated frequent valve lash adjustments.

I just bought a 78 Monte Carlo as well as a 454. I specifically did a search to see if the ac delete would be needed because it’s kind of tight with a SBC! Nice build, looks really well done

@@jimmy_olds …. If you use stock style stamped rockers or shaft rockers (T&D Machine, Jesel) with the OEM valve covers you’ll be good on clearance. Pedestal mount roller rockers with tall valve covers will require surgery on the A/C box. This is a good video to watch…. m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYTHZouHqJipisU Fast forward to 5 minutes 45 seconds to see valve cover clearance issues addressed. I hindsight, I wish I had notched my heater box just to give myself a little more breathing room. Servicing the passenger side valve cover requires lots of patience. Quick tip; spark plug changes are easier than you’d think, just go through the wheel wells to change them.

How clever of you. I looked at your profile, but there are no videos of your ride, funny how that works 🤔. But since you brought it up, I’ve decoded the block stamping. The block (which is the only OEM part in the entire engine) is a 1971 Tonawanda LS5 installed at the Baltimore plant. Baltimore didn’t assemble pickups, but they did assemble Chevelles and Monte Carlos. The LS5 was not available in the ‘71 Monte, so this block is from a Chevelle. Nice try. 🙄

what headers are you using?
@abolishwelfare
@abolishwelfare 2 жыл бұрын
Hooker Headers 2241HKR - Hooker Super Competition Headers. They’re a tight fit. I used a Milodon 7 quart oil pan that complicated the install. They may be a bit more forgiving with a stock 5 quart pan.
