Is Swanny Ready for an 1,100-Mile Road Trip?! We show my new Farm Truck, a 454 Big Block powered 1978 Chevy K-20, some love! The old squarebody gets working brakes, an interior refresh, a hacked fan shroud, shocks, new tires, and dual exhaust courtesy of Rose's Muffler Grandview, MO. Will we be ready to try and drive this pile of a truck to Wisconsin and back to do snowmobile things with ‪@JunkyardDigs‬ and friends? Stay tuned for more of this old truck restoration!

Hopefully a helpful tip: those shocks look identical to my Monroe Coil-Assistance Shock Absorber. They're roughly 80 a set and help the leaf springs in carrying some of the weight. I love mine cuz my leaf springs were long dead and the coil shocks actually lifted the rear by 2 inches.

Gear lube, specifically GL5 gear lube, has sulfur additives which smell terrible. For my manual transmission, I have to make sure that I do NOT use the same oil as the diff. It takes a GL4 gear oil, which does NOT have these additives. The additives in GL5 will eat "yellow metals" like bronze & brass etc. Some transmissions, like mine, have those metals in them. Almost every time I do a transmission fluid change I smell that nasty smell and know that they put the wrong fluid in.

20+ year mechanic here, rubber undercoating is the worst because it traps moisture and will cause it to rust from the inside out. You should look into woolwax. I've used it for years and it does an amazing job. you can get it in black. It will keep moisture out and self heals.

21:28 how I've had good luck getting seized brake line nuts free is to first clean the nut, tube, and exposed threads with a wire brush or wire wheel in a drill. Soak with deep creep or pb blaster then heat the nut with a small propane torch. Then spray with more pb blaster or deep creep. The heat will pull the penetrant into the threads. It should break loose with a good line wrench. If it won't come loose or the nut is rusted to nothing, just cut the line off at the T fitting and remove the nut with a socket and install a new section of nicop line. Nicop is a bit more expensive, but well worth it. It bends and shapes easily without kinking, and will never rust or corrode.
