It kills me that little teenage me threw out every box I ever had. Short sighted! Great collection Rik.
@RiksRandomRetro3 жыл бұрын
Ouch yeah I had a similar thing happen where I wasn't careful where some of the collection wasn't stored and pretty sure at least an entire bag full of games got thrown out as a result. Has been a slow climb back to fill those gaps. Oh well the hunt is the fun part I suppose. Thanks for watching!

I love your video, I had so many big box games from my youth but when I moved out in the mid 00s I just tossed the vast majority of them in the trash. I can't believe I did that. Video like your brings back so many memories
@RiksRandomRetro Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! It's all about the nostalgia, no doubt. I have sadly lost quite a few boxes through the years from at least one move. Trying to slowly recapture those, but it's a great period in time to look back at and remember.

That's what got me back into it as well! I remember a few years ago now, seeing an LGR video with big box games in the background, and it completely revitalized my love for the hobby. I started collecting again at that point.

I've still got my complete Ultimate Doom, Doom 2, and Doom 2 Master Levels floating around here somewhere. The box art for Doom games has always been fantastic. Except 2016's default cover. We don't talk about that one.

Terrific! Yes they do have a history of great covers for sure. A missed opportunity for a big box release for Doom 2016 and Eternal I have to say (PC that is, I know we have gotten ones for consoles), looking at you Limited Run Games!

@RiksRandomRetro3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah I'm sad for the ones I've lost along the way but also glad I managed to keep a lot of them this long. Nostalgia combined with stubborness of dragging them with me! Not always easy to keep though and the size alone I think was conducive to them being thrown out over the years versus say just the jewel case or a console game.

Beautiful collection :)
@dacrylis8202 жыл бұрын
Absolutely stellar collection you got there! Love the variety of games on display. Been slowly building a collection over the years myself, tho it is getting really quite expensive now when looking for some specific games. Got around 60-70 titles so far, mostly going for game Im interested in or find locally for cheap (aiming for quality over quantity since I have quite limited space for my games) Some of my favourites I have managed to pick up are the System Shock games, Deus Ex, Marathon 2, X-Com and most C&C games. Good luck in the future! Cheers from Västernorrland
@RiksRandomRetro2 жыл бұрын
Tack! Yeah it's been a slow build over time as agreed that's really the only way to collect any more I think unless you get a lucky score. Quality over quantity is a good approach!

Fantastic collection! I'm building the shelf and want to order Age of Empires big box from ebay. I noticed it's bigger than usual box in your video, may I ask for its height? Wanted to get to the sweet spot size when making the shelf. Thanks for sharing the video!
@RiksRandomRetro Жыл бұрын
Thanks! And a lot has changed with the collection since... I may have to make an update video, hah! The AoE box is exactly 10.5 inches, from my measurement here now. It's a sturdy box for sure, with my shelves only giving room to just under 11. Barely squeezing in!
@EvokingWinds Жыл бұрын
What's your shelf size by the way? looks ideal!
@RiksRandomRetro Жыл бұрын
It's an adjustable Ivar system from Ikea. So you can set the height to whatever works. In this case the distance giving that 11" of available space seems perfect for most big box games.
