When I still worked on the farm back in the early 1990's I built the first land roller around here. We would silage barley and cut as close to the ground as possible. The first year the roller was only 12" wide and we did a couple of quarters. I work so well the next year I made it 36' wide and we roller all the land the farm owned. after about 5 years rollers were being built commercially up here.

Thanks for another great video. It was interesting and enjoyable as always. Loved the drone footage at the start of the video. Sure shows how dry you are. Hurts to see that. Sincerely praying for you Welkers that you get some moisture soon for your crops!!!!!! My blessings!!!’n That rooler is one big piece of equipment. Covers a lot of ground in a hurray. Believe you said 100 acres an hour. Great. You said you had tried several different settings on the auto steer and finally got a setting that is working great. Makes field work easier for you. Great. Big bud smoking a lot. Seems the starter is working over duty. Nick I agree with you that some of the injectors must beef some attention. Believe that is it possibly. Wiggles , good to see you. Good guy there. Rock picker gets a lot of hard heavy work. Glad leg arms was able too get it welded and fixed up. Back at it for wiggles. Thanks leg arms. Leg arms you are doing nice work on that ac compressor. Am sure you will have it mounted in no time. Praying for moisture for your crops. May god watch over your crops. All for now. Drone footage was outstanding. You all take care and be safe. Looking forward to the next video. Thanks for everything all of the Welker family. The Iowa farm boy. Steve.

Hats off to LegArms. You are a bit of a throwback to farmers I grew up with. Most all had at least 3 things; cutting torch, Lincoln red buzz box welder and a well supplied scrap iron pile. Farmers used to fabricate most anything they needed. I don’t see how you guys survive without irrigation up there. Down here in Georgia, almost no one farms dry land anymore. Hope you guys can get some rain soon. I know you have been talking about the forecast being a dry year. Hope not after the hail damage last year.

The Buds run a Cummins engine. If it is smoking like that and hard to start also check for an injector hanging open along with valves out of adjustment. There's one other possibility that the camshaft is losing a lobe. The N14 had a problem with that. This is coming from someone who has been arms deep in a N14 on the side of a road trying to get it limped into the shop.

Heads up on the glasses Leg Arms (eyecare professional here for some info for ya), "Cheaters" are based on add powers for reading which is prescribed by age groupings. The lowest power that works is best since you don't want to overpower your eyes and become dependant on higher prescriptions. If you find those working better for closeup than distance your better off but if they work for distance too I suggest a proper eye exam 😜 long time viewer here 😄

Something that I thnk is a bit unusual is how long the KT and the NTC crank when starting. Even in near zero conditions they should crank over and start a faster than they do. Ive been around all the mechanical,direct injection American engines (CAT,Cummins,Mack,GM)for decades, and they always start really well above 0C. Diesels like those are quite sensitive to valve lash, and it makes a difference. On those Cummins engines, the lash adjustment is done on a hot engine, typically called a Hot-set.

A roller isn't going to do a thing for seed/soil contact. I have placed an egg sideways 1" below the soil surface, run the roller over it, and that far down the egg remains undamaged. Besides, the roller only compacts the ridges left by the drill, it never actually compacts the seed furrow. You guys have the best channel on youtube, I love being a subscriber these past years now. Hello and warmest regards from Lethbridge area!
@bradleyhenderson83632 жыл бұрын
Hey Nick. Just a thought but I think your roller needs another 10' of hitch. That would give the tractor more leverage to control the width of the roller. Also would reduce the weight needed to steer the roller. Like I said just a thought. Keep up the good work and enjoy the farm life.
@AndrooH2 жыл бұрын
I'd suspect you need the injectors serviced, but also check compression and valves.
@grahampanter40182 жыл бұрын
Hi Nick, Did you not miss out the third most important reason for rolling, i.e. retaining what moisture there is, plus when you do get rain, it will not evaporate so quickly, as there is less surface area. Best Wishes Graham. Retired British farmer
