When I worked at McDonald's as a maintenance man, I got to use one called a Billy Goat. It was a 8 HP vacuum only you push ,with the worst start up ability, and when it finally did start, you never shut it off till you were done! And dumping the bag in the dumpster was ridiculously hard for one person. Fun times... That machine there is So Nice. But it's only been 35 years since my experience.

I have an electric version of the vacuum portion of this machine. We’ve had it for at least 12 yrs and we struggled to use it correctly the first few. My wife loves it because it turns huge piles of leaves into a few bags of powder in an hour. Your machine is perfect for larger properties. Keep it. Makes great compost or mulch. We rake out leaves from the edges and between bushes into a big loose windrow and it’s gone into bags in an hour. Once you get the vacuum height correct it’s a charm. I’ve picked up stones that have punched holes in the impeller housing two times and have patched with sheet metal because I can’t replace the housing or find another machine. That’s how handy it is.

was 4th thumbs up - I got a used Craftsman chipper at a yard sale @ 20 yr ago, $200. It's a stationary model, we'd rake/blow the leaves into piles or rows, drop the chute, then feed the machine. The mobile version would be a bit less work, I believe. (Mine has solid tires.)

I have a YardVac Junior (now out of business) that my dad bought used for $10 in the 70’s. The aluminum housing was eroded from using the vacuum with sand from operating it in Florida that he had repaired at the time. I still have it and it works very well 50 years later, i had replaced the original engine in the early 90’s as i got tired or replacing the points. Blowers have largely replaced gas vacuums, but the vacuums work great (removing glass clippings and leaves from edged paved surfaces) and move material into a bag rather than just blowing it around.

I hear you about the tires. Where I work, there are several hand trucks which are never used because they have flat tires. We went through a long period disconnected from our network, so I offered to take them home and fix them a few at a time because I have the experience and tools. Nope, the mechanics, who can't keep up with the truck maintenance and repair will do it. I have not actually checked in the last several months, but I wager they are unchanged. Got to say I love my tubeless mountain bike tires, though.

Good ol' *Mustie1* on a Sunday morning...I had an idea while watching: You could place this behind your shop with a hose coming inside through a wall flange, then the suction could be used for extended supplemental ventilation like if you were troubleshooting or first starting old vehicles repeatedly. These move around 2000cfm, and with it outside you wouldn't hear it running too loudly.

I restored a machine similar to this with hopes it would solve all my lawn cleanup woes lol. The little chipper is useless. Any stick wider than an inch just chokes. The vacuum doesn't pick up acorns. It isn't as efficient with leaves as a backpack blower. Still on the lookout for one with a large flexible hose. That will at least help me clean up tough to get to areas where I can't just hit it with my blower, like my garden.
@terryfromsouthcarolina4601Сағат бұрын
Mustie, knock the bearings out of the rim. Find a pulley or other hub that has a keyway in it. Turn it down until it fits snugly in the rim. Weld the sleeve to the rim. Fixed! Don't forget to put the key in. That's what I would do....LOL! Cheers Terry
