Are you putting the actual pellets on the tray above the burner or in a pellet tube? Im looking to do this but found when others use pellets instead of chips, it has burned too hot too fast in their chief smokers.

That's a nice looking smoker! I've never used an electric one before. I started out with an offset pit, then moved to my Ugly Drum.... and now I'm using a gas smoker. The drum was probably my favorite to use, but the gas smoker can bbq 4 times the food. Thumb's up Steve!

That looks like a nice smoker. I have a Stumps charcoal smoker at the camp that I enjoy using. We've got plenty of hickory growing down there so it's easy to find and use. You can't pic up that Stumps smoker with one finger though that's for sure, that thing will break bones if it fell over top of you. Good video!

Bill Goudy he uses electric smoker and uses the pellets. I use wood chips and wet mine like 35 minutes before so they don't burn. Mostly because my smoker is gas. If not my wood chips would just burn up fast and not smoke good. I will be watching to see what you are up too. Smoking a Ham?
@SteveRobReviews
@SteveRobReviews 7 жыл бұрын
I think the gas smokers are better because you can crank it up to temps I cannot. I'm cold smoking and you can do both if you turn it down . Electric is just more convenient . My main purpose is jerky and I have been experimenting with pork and it seems my children prefer the pork to the beef as in texture and flavour. I use pork loins at 1/3 the price of beef eye of round.

Hey Rob - thanks for the video Just wondering which unit you prefer (older vs newer)? Are there any notable differences (did quality get cheaper - as it does w/ most products)? Also, how were the pellets 👍 or 👎

I would say the newer one is designed a bit better and a bit lighter but works just the same . Like them both as they both smoke great,

I've had a wood fired smoker which I loved and presently have a propane smoker which works great and because of the design has better heat control. I've only used chunks and chips for smoke, never pellets, I wonder if long soaking periods used on chips would cause them to fall apart? Hope it works great, I'm sure by the end of the forty pounds you'll make it work. And remember, you can't have too many smokers and grills!! Happy Fathers day.

STEVE ROB I took a quick look online, a few guys said there must be moisture in with the pellets, a few said dry. I hope you let us know how you make out no matter what the results. My first thought is they will charge and possibly ignite from the heat of the element the pan sits on but I've never fooled with the pellets except in a pellet stove which obviously they ignited dam fast. I'm looking forward to your experiments.

The smoker looks very comparable to your old one and I'm sure you'll get some good use out of it as you did before. You guys sure get overcharged for a lot of stuff up there. Does hickory pellets should do the trick and should make a lot of smoke. Happy smoking Steve! 😀

Great video. I learned how to smoke fish when I was a kid with a little chief smoker and I have been a fanboy ever since. Fish is my all-time favorite for this smoker but jerky is also great. I did London broil jerky the other day... I know this comment is dated but you can use a pellet tray on the bottom rack of this smoke and it works great. I switch the drip pan with a great and put it as low as possible.

I was looking at smokers just the other day and saw this one on Amazon. I think it seems a little small for what I usually smoke (spare ribs) so I'm going to get one a bit bigger. I have a round smoker now and I have to cut the ribs into 2 pieces to smoke them. I think the pellets will work fine, just wonder if you'll get more smoking time out of a pan vs wood chips.
@SteveRobReviews
@SteveRobReviews 7 жыл бұрын
Jay I get more smoking time out of a pan of pellets and a ton more smoke. I can not see the garage wall now when it's smoking it's crazy smoke from pellets. I won't go back to chips . I see a lot of guys up here just buy a single electric burner and put it in a fridge that quit working , Bill Goudy uses an old stove because you have a lot more room as well. At your place you have lots of room so an old fridge would work great and wide enough for the ribs. Makes a great 20 part youtube series on building a smoker too. LOL

About 230-240 max but most times i'm smoking in the winter so my heat gun shows about 140-170 . I bought the second smoker for all the deer meat I smoke. Deer is by far the best meat for jerky and now I can do so much more in less time. If I was going to get a smoker for all round use it would be one with a higher heat level . Great question Mike.

I have a Master Forge vertical smoker that I really like. It is propane. I can get 250-270 during the summer and like yours, only 190-200 in the winter (therefore I just don't use it during the winter). I will do a feature on it soon. I like making Slim Jims with venison, chicken, turkey, hams, butts. My new hunting club has many wild hogs so that may become a new staple. Cheers!
