My first reaction too. William Regal tagged with Big Daddy but never opposed him. Robbie Brookside also came to mind (was trying to recall UK wrestlers who crossed the generation gap), but upon checking he did wrestle Bryan but not Daddy.

American Dragon Brian Danielson toured Britain in 2003 (as documented in his YES book) winning Rollerball Rocco's old World Heavy-Middleweight title (ditto) less than 10 years after Big Daddy retired in December 1993. There were quite a number of former Daddy opponents still active in 2003 that Bryan could have worked with - the late great Drew McDonald springs to mind for a start.

Five of the eight people who wrestled on the first WWF ITV Special in January 1987 previously wrestled in Britain on World Of Sport - Kamala, Salvatore Belomo, Bret, Davey and Dynamite. Only Hogan. Savage and Neidhart had never been on British TV Wrestling before - Neidhart would eventually wrestle for Hammerlock in 2002.

Man, I love Big Daddy. He's like a warboss for the seaside postcard side of Britain. I love this style of wrestling, but the sun has really set for it, unless it was brought back with a sense of humour about itself. Big Daddy sounds like a decent feller, too, I've heard no one saying a bad word about him. His cultrual impact was MASSIVE, though. One can't bark "technique" at him and disqualify him from any hall of fame, EVERYONE in the UK knows his name. Any wrestling hall of fame who refuses to accept him is nothing but a joke. --- Though I thoroughly enjoyed you boys roasting him, very funny stuff! ---- Oh, and bless Kamala/Harris in this video, he did a great job for Shirley!

@@Anthony-fk7yn no, it actually doesn't matter how good Benoit was at doing his job. Wrestling and kayfabe achievements are totally and utterly irrelevant after what he did. Aside from that, a wrestler who is a big draw, such as Big Daddy, is a successful wrestler. This is pro wrestling we are talking about - drawing power is incredibly important.

Back in the 80s, Mark sang "Send Me an Angel" as he prayed for salvation. Then 30 years later Pete appeared to him in a halo of golden light. In a lyrical, totally not pubescent, voice Pete said, "Come, my friend, and follow me to the promised land." And that is the origin of the Wrestle Me Podcast.

When Kamala died, Bret Hart wrote that he remembered seeing Kamala wrestling in Croydon. This could be a job for Marc and Pete - find footage of Bret wrestling in the UK. I do have some vague memory of a US wrestler (I know Bret is Canadian) being on World of Sport at one point. Cant remember exactly who, but IIRC, it was a real clash of styles and the US wrestler looked the far better. I also vaguely remember a bout, which maybe the same wrestler, of a wrestler repeatedly using his knees in the eyes on a downed opponent. This may be a far brutal memory than reality - mainly because I was quite young at the time!
