It's not that his character was "disrespectful" as you stated constantly throughout the film. It's like a friendship where you constantly tease each other but deep down you care about each other. That's what it was like for Sonny and Corrine and i think the final scene during Sonny's celebration proves that.

I remember when my best friend on the ship (former US Navy) and I were watching this movie on the mess deck. He started to tear up at Adam Sandler’s closing speech. I didn’t give him too much hell about it because although I usually won our roasting sessions, I usually lost our sparring matches. I knew that he was a new father, but I couldn’t for the life of me get why this sailor who grew up in 80s-90 era Brooklyn would call an Adam Sandler speech “beautiful.” I only got it when I became a father myself.

All this could've technically been prevented if Sonny just told Julian's guardian counselor that he's the uncle considering he and Kevin are close friends. And he can hold the kid for a while til the Dad returns.

OMG, I forgot how emotional this movie is. It premiered just a year before my first kid was born. The movie captures perfectly how unprepared a first-time father can feel, and how awesome it can be when you feel like you start to get it right.

This movie impacted my life so much when I had my own sons I would jokingly say this the EXACT same way as 10:38, just to mess with them. They would laugh not knowing why I did it like that. It was too adorable so I didn’t want to tell them for as long as possible. It was like an inside joke between us but the reason behind it was like my own inside joke in our inside joke. So I’ll tell them when they are gonna have their own kids. It’s something they will hopefully keep with them for their lives then maybe pass on to their kids when they’re old enough.

Julian really wanted it to be that way but it turned out Jon Stewarts character was actually his real dad and him and Sonny ended up just being close friends so Julian had the best of both worlds at the end of the movie.

I watched this movie so much as a kid...I watched all the Happy Madison movies a lot as a kid. So great and the comedy is such immature humor that it weirdly makes it perfect for kids in the worst way ...I completely forgot, but I will randomly do the woodchuck tongue twister because of this movie. I was determined to prove I could say it as a kid and I learned...I'm 26 now...I've been saying that crap for over 20 years lol

If you liked this one, I'd recommend 50 First Dates. People will tell you The Wedding Singer is the better Drew Barrymore/Adam Sandler movie, but I disagree.

Lol how Mary was so concerned about his job status. 😂 All the cameos in this, Jon Stewart from The Daily Show, especially. Movie is a throwback to the Charlie Chaplin classic, The Kid. That story has been told in a 100 movies since about a down on their luck loser that has to take care of a child.

Its not really about sonny himself changing his life. Julian inspired him to change and become a better person. Its really quite a beautiful story once you think about it. How can something as small as a child inspire a grown adult to better their life? This movie shows the importance the impact that a kid can have on a parents life and its a beautiful thing. That's the beauty of this film. And this film its different if you're a father. It shows the father son aspect of parenting when most films in hollywood only show mother and child relationships. Sandler flipped the switch on this one and showed how truly important a father is in a childs life and also showed how important a child is to someone who just needed a little push to be great and Julian was the perfect choice. They balanced perfectly together.

Sonny is Kevin's good friend. His not pressing charges means it's not a kidnapping since Julian was entrusted to Sonny. Kevin as Julian's father didn't view it as Julian being taken from him unlawfully and therefore, the context is his friend took care of the child for him during a time when he was not equipped to.

There are comedies, and then there are Adam Sandler movies. Sandler is a genre all on his own. His films always have heart, good natured fun, and low brow humor. He's not trying to be satirical or jaded or sardonic. Sandler is everybody's goofball that we love hanging around. He's loyal to his friends too which is why we always see at least most of the same actors and filmmakers in all his movies. Whether they are legit great films or enjoyable trash, you know you're watching an Adam Sandler film.

Kevin honestly didn't know Julian was his son. In the beginning Julian says he's from Buffalo, but Kevin had never been to Buffalo. Then during the hearing Julian says that he was born in Toronto, and you see Kevin's face change as he remembers the night in Toronto. And it all happened before he meet his fiance.

Jumped on this as soon as i scrolled by it.. Don't get me wrong..i really do like Sandler but find this one really really underrated. Maybe because it's not too silly for his Billy Madison / Waterboy fans (both fantastic btw) but not full on serious either.. But when those gut punches come they really do.. And this film showed what the "Sand Man" was capable of.
