Thanks for taking the KZbin eye along for the climb. Of all the tree channels on KZbin, I'm only subscribed to you because you have so many tools in your bag for a wide variety of scenarios, I almost always learn something valuable. Not "how to, but how you do it;) 😂

I can relate to that feeling of getting to the first point where you think "I'm gonna stop right here, cause this is sketchy af" and then after working on it some you think "I can probably be okay to get up to that next point" and once you do, you think, well, I'm already commited, Jesus, please look out for me on this one; I'm kinda scared" Have you ever gotten up into a tree and just had that deep ominous feeling that it ain't right and gotten back down? I have.
@metaspencer5 ай бұрын
oh many you got me laughing with that "this is the highest point" then another step, then another ... the last tree I bailed out on it was because of bees, but yeah, I'd dropped out of a few and walked away, saying simply "I can't do it"

Enjoyed the video. Let's face it, climbing dead trees adds an element of danger.....which means adventure. Adventure is exhilarating. Yes? As well as satisfying once the tree is conquered. Plus you have the feeling that not many other men (or women) would work that tree down. That's good for pride and ego. Yes? Yes! Very nice job. Wow......61,000+ subscribers....Super!!
@metaspencer5 ай бұрын
I hear ya man -- gets the blood pumping and definitely stimulates the senses. With that said, and I think you'd agree: I try to avoid ALL DANGER and stay safe. After examining and thinking over this climb, it looked pretty dang safe to me, which is the only reason I went up there. But as you hint at, ya never know! dang trees are full of surprises.

Hey Spencer! Nice work! That was a bit sketchy. I took down a big dead oak not too long ago that was in a very similar state of decay. The stuff at the top was real bad-broke off when I was only about halfway through cutting it. I used tie in points in 2 nearby trees. Nothing big enough near this one to do that?
@metaspencer5 ай бұрын
Yeah nothing big enough to tie into on this one that was close by. I took down a rotten oak back in the day and rigged stuff down off the tree: never again. I'll only free fall material down in a situation like this. Best avoid dead trees altogether tho, right!?
@MikeBrooks125505 ай бұрын
@@metaspencer yea, seems most people let them go way to long before doing something about it.🤷🏼♂️ I had a couple dead ash trees to deal with last year that were left too long, homeowner says "they've been dead for a while"🤦🏼♂️ leaning toward their house etc.

the wood typically goes into our firewood pile (we heat with it over the winter 100%), but this stuff may be too far gone to burn

@metaspencer4 ай бұрын
$600!?! no way that would break the bank. I got a semi-janky Petzl harness a while back ... think I paid 300 bones for it and immediately started hearing horror stories about it failing. So instead of buying another I just doubled up the bridge and seems to be keeping me up there :) ... but you're right: I should do an overview!

Not in the industry, so pardon my ignorance, but was this a climber because it was too rotten to get a good hinge? I.e. potential to fall toward the house (or onto you) uncontrolled?
