I'm soooo happy as a african american to find this Chanel, to help educate me on whats happenings in south Africa. ill like to give my brothers and sisters a little waring. please do take what is yours and right what wrongs you can, BUT absolute power corrupts absolutely . so while you fight to right wrongs know that you can't become the people that once oppressed you in righting those wrongs. AFRICAN POWER!

“On some positions, cowardice asks the question, is it expedient? And then expedience comes along and asks the question, is it politic? Vanity asks the question, is it popular? Conscience asks the question, is it right? There comes a time when one must take the position that is neither safe nor politic nor popular, but he must do it because conscience tells him it is right.” ― Martin Luther King Jr.

We confuse the issue of respect and unfortunately convert it into a right to misuse leadership positions. I come from Kenya where we have had our fair share of challenges and satire is a very deep part of political critique. Yes it is true that we have to respect our elders and yes we have to give way or stand for a grey haired old person, that is respect, however it does not mean that I get trodden upon. When I was a boy I really looked forward to the rights of passage and I assure you I changed overnight as my status required that I treat people in a certain way treat depicted my new status and I was treated as a young adult in return. After this society now did not refer to me as a boy but if I then was to behave in a manner akin to that of a boy then rebuke would follow and I would be told to behave my status not like a boy (and we have a derogatory term when this is said in my mother tongue. Unfortunately in Africa we have a systemic problem where leadership is synonymous with acquisition of assets and wealth at the expense of society. Culturally theft is dealt with violently (Consider our leaders participate in theft of common wealth) (We see this even when we catch a thief in the market there is no satire its violent) Unfortunately we cannot practice mob justice upon our leaders physically so we do it socially by disrespecting them which is a form of social mob justice. If I want your respect I will behave in a manner that creates an atmosphere against which your then hold me in esteem and respect, however if you come into my space and behave like a clown I will not treat you as a king. The emancipation of our people in Africa will come from the empowerment by leadership that serves the people not themselves. There is enough for eve. Did you know that f you built a 600Sq house for each an ever African (all 900Million) (Man woman, Girl Boy & Child) We could fit all of us in Kenya with enough space left for Schools, Fields, recreation and social amenities. What this means the rest of Africa could be left free for us to exploit. The point I am trying to make is that Africa I way more than we could ever hope to use but so many of us sleep Hungry each night, Sleep under Bridges and are in great need yet we are living on wealth untold which even all our leaders put together cannot consume even if they wanted to but it is hoarded by those we elect as custodians

What boggles my mind is that we as South Africans listen to people who speak fluent English without hearing what they are talking about. We fancy new words without really taking time to understand what they meant. The point is simple, whether you are a King, a President, an elder or a Leader, if you don't have respect for the masses, either by your words or your actions, you deserve no respect. Period! We are all equal as people without the titles we give one another.

Ja, look, so I mean from my side, I am totally fine with women who express themselves. I agree with the CONTENT of Ntsiki's position. It is important to disrupt 'traditional' rules and hierarchy around who gets to speak and who gets automatic respect and who doesn't in African society. Ntsiki as an individual plays an important role as someone who doesn't conform to a 'conventional' way of doing things both in her art & poetry, her 'aesthetic' and her social commentary. Forward with her. I was making a much sillier point, I'm afraid. By 'fakazing' I meant she was distracting me from hearing Ndlozi's points with the whole "yes" "yes" "yes" in support. Like those people in church with the amens. I'm fine with agreeing with someone but don't drown out the speaker. But I agree with you @Red Carded on the meat of what you are saying.

It takes so many animal brutal acts for a dog to bite it's master. There must have been repeated actions of leaders not doing what they are constitutional voted for before the uproar became so loud and deafening to bear. Don't go out demanding for respect when you are giving none.

Me with my poor english will say don't loose respect towards your elders no matter what..I see people clapping hands after Mr Ndlozi has spoken,,I don't support and I don't encourage people not to show respect to the elders,,I don't care how Mr Ndlozi sugar coats it with his excellent English fact of the matter is that respect is of the fundamental impotance to be shown to elders despite of differences especially us as Africans..Madam Mbethe was 100% correct to remind Mr Shivhambu as an African child that as much as he is a member of parliament and no one is disputing that,,he must still show respect and not shield himself by saying he is a member of parliament and he will address her in the manner he did..It cannot be correct therefore I urge everyone regardless of race and different backgrounds we have that we respect our elders so that they will also have no choice but respect us back the way we do,,in so doing we will build this beautiful country with respect and we will unite through respect and we will trully love one another and we will prosper through respect and we will see each other equally through respect..Thank you
