That is the most weird yet awesome machine. The way it jumped at the end like a deer or horse was amazing. Perhaps one use for this is to have several and set them in the woods or mountains when someone is lost, search the area, and carry medical supplies.

I guess a whole bunch of research went into this development. I can see how it can be useful when it is refined and developed further. It could have real military advantages, and it could change rural search and rescue forever. Great stuff!

@BadFlyingFish My point is that balance is vital to walking, running, jumping, and climbing. Balance comes before climbing. A baby, especially a blind one, would not be able to crawl, much less climb stairs without proper balance. No matter how long it took creatures to gain a sense of balance, it took even longer for them to climb with their limbs.

This could be a awesome decoy in combat situations. It could easily pass off as someone using a chainsaw to cut down trees instead of paying attention to his surroundings. Makes the enemy think they have the surprise.

@BadFlyingFish Yes, the ability to recover from the kick is indicative of a high level of speed/balance. But I don’t think it’s quite as excessive as you do. Its feet also function as its "sight". So recovering balance on a flat surface, is just a matter of speed of movement. Climbing anything of any size requires a different type of balance. Even small rocks made it stumble. And really, it had no “trouble” climbing the brick pile without stumbling, it was just taking slow, high steps.

@Semlohwerd i agree-- its amazing technology but cant begin to compare to a simple 4 or 6 wheeled vehicle. also all those sensors and mechanics are bound to fail sooner or later and the whole thing is useless. there very little that can go wrong with a wheeled vehicle.
