It’s Earl Grey Tea, not Earl Grey. And if you steep Earl Grey Tea long enough, it is about that color.

If somebody hasn’t mentioned it yet, you can take the cap off the ink bottle for a limited amount of time, say a half hour, to let some water dry out, but don’t forget to put the cap back on. Absolutely beautiful pen though.

Al lot of teas (No herbal ones) are brown/red/orange depending on how strong the tea is. The colour does not look that off, more the "vibrancy" is the issue. And by the way the tea is called Earl Gray Tea, because it is named after Earl Grey, as in the name Grey, not the colour.

This is exactly why I have a love hate relationship with my mag600. I think I've only tried 😊 Diamine inks thus far. I will try a different brand. Thanks!

that color is so very beautiful to me. the nib might be oiled by fingerprints or actual oil underneath. i had several jinhao pens with that issue, and a pilot and and a conklin.

My most disappointing FP experiences were the Jinhao X159, Jinhao 9016, and my two Kaweco Sports. None of them worked even after a substantial amount of washing, tinkering with the tines, etc.

I don't know what type of Earl Grey tea you have beem drinking but that is the exact colour it is, I believe due to the bergamot oil. Dominant Industry make some absolutely beautiful inks... "Forest" is my personal favourite deep green.

I was confused by Rhodia paper too. Started with a dot pad and liked it, was also very disappointed in the journal and the amount of bleed-through I got with the same pens and ink I used on the pad.

check make sure that the nib and feed are touching and dont have a gap make sure the nib/feed are properly set = hard starting railroading if that isnt the problem perhaps add a couple drops of Noodlers blue ghost and or a tooth pick dipped into white lightning and into the converter with ink

Thanks, Carrie. I had to dig out a sliver of leftover ebonite from the feed's ink channel of my Mag600. It didn't railroad a bit when eyedroppered after that. I put my converter in it and started having problems when just writing a letter. After I use up the ink in the converter, I'm going to go back to eyedroppering it.

Some ink/pen combinations are just a big no, somehow. Waterman Brown in pilot metro or Prera? No. Diamine Green black in Waterman Expert? No. Remember, it is the pen that chooses the ink!
@alexwhiteowl

I agree. For me, the ink can make or break a pen. Some inks feel sooo velvety smooth (many Sailors). Some inks also don't play well in cartridges or converters, especially the dried inks (Dominant Industry are usually drier)

I liked the concept of the pens choosing the ink and being picky about what you feed them with.

Thank you for this video. I have been so surprised by the accolades given the Mag 600. This has been exactly my experience with the pen regardless of the ink. If i feel like mucking with the converter, fine. Otherwise I am less than impressed.

Try keeping a cup of water on hand, enough to cover the nib and dip it in to help getting it going again. I have a vintage lever-filler I have to do that with once in a while.

I have experienced flow issues similar too that in the past, but I have not used a flex nib. One of the problem inks was Noodler's Southwest Sunset, in my Pilot Custom 74. I cleaned the Southwest Sunset out of the pen, filled it with Waterman Mysterious Blue, and had no issues. I tried the Southwest Sunset in another pen, and I had flow issues with it in that pen. Luckily I only had a sample bottle so there was not much ink left to dump down the drain.

Add water to the ink if it’s too wet. If it’s an ebonite feed, try a dry ink like Pelikan 4001 BB or Salix.

Consulting the Ouija board, it suggests you think of Benu pens. A Benu Earl Grey might have bits of bergamot in the resin. Could the Earl Grey ink have some bergamot oil or tiny bits of rind in it? Might that interact with remnants of the Ancient Copper and make clots in the ink channel? Or in the aperture of the converter? Nah. That stuff is nonsense. Have you tried putting dish detergent on the end of your finger and setting the open end of the converter on that and reinserting it into the nipple? Or adding a drop or three of water to the ink in the pen? It seems that adhesion to the components might be resulting in ink starvation, like, the ink wants to stick inside and not flow well once there's a nice coating on the pen innards. Also, re-seat the nib on the feed, being sure there's no daylight, air, gap in between the concave surface of the nib and the convex surface of the feed. And check the ink channel for clots, cat hair, Tribbles. Thanks for sharing your worst fountain pen experience. If that's the worst, you have a charmed life.

I have a similar problem sometimes with my Lamy Joy with Diamine Writers Blood. Usually have to flood the feed and it starts again (tho it gets even wetter for around half a page before it normalises, u can see the difference in the condensation of the ink)

It's not the surface tension, it's because so much liquid leaves the "cartridge" that it creates a rapid vacuum, and it's not designed for the rapid change in pressure..flex nibs are also not designed for "fast" writing..so its most likely the combination of several issues..but it creates more views to blame a good pen then to say, " I have no idea of the concept of fountain pens"..😂😂
