question 4: "Why the music sucks so much?" answer: It's not that bad in my opinon;-). I choose it becouse of ant-related lyrics (it was not so much to choose form).

@MyStrangeAnimals Recently quiet a lot of larvae are rising in the nest, so the colony needs a lot of food to feed them. That's why the number of workers foraging on the arena is now bigger than you can see in my video. However, it's still just about 5-10% of colony's population, rest of the workers stay in the nest.

In order to maintain a perfect humidity gradient, you may cut Ytong in 2 parts, than bind them together using a special glue. If you do so, only this half of the nest that has contact with water in the container will absorb water.

A very cool design but how they get food? You open the cage and put a giant turkey for their dinner?
@Oisincolledge7 жыл бұрын
Donald Trump he probably feeds them a small bowl of insects a week
@868edgar7 жыл бұрын
FAR OUT DOLYER Likely drop a roach or two into the colony, the ants will come out and bring it down, they only need food about once a week for smaller colonies surprisingly enough but one this size probably requires more feeding.

@MrNollKoll You are correct, the water added through this hole is to maintain proper humidity. However, when the temperature slightly decreases, during the night for example, some of the water in the air inside of the nest becomes liquid and forms tiny droplets on the glass, so that ants can drink it. This amount of drinking water is not enough though, so I place some water sources on the arena.

best formicarium I have ever seen. I hope to have 1 one day, just can never get a queen to do her job I'm queenless at moment :(
@hobo12627 жыл бұрын
yeah its a bit late to try to find one :P, you could go lifting up rocks in hopes to find a newly established colony. Depending on where you are located nuptial flights are usually around the Beggining and end of the summer. i just recently found a Lasius flavus queen on the screen of my window.
@Oisincolledge7 жыл бұрын
Fook Dat look up antsuk on Google that are selling queens for 15 with 25 workers but they only ship to Europe

I literally found a camponotus queen just a few days ago. It is late winter here, and I just broke a stick in half and found TWO queens in there, just chillin. I am planning to sell one to my friend, because he missed the nuptial flight.

I used to have a ant farm...probably more than 1,000...the glass lid broke due to my neighbors kids and there baseball...I put a towel over it while I went to buy another one...(terrible mistake)I came home to a broken towel an only a queen ant ...I looked up to see the ants on the roof....and then left the house to call the exterminator....too bad he had OCD... ;-; CX

@DannyT994 The upper edges of the tank and the bottom of this horizontal shelf lieing on the top are covered with talcum in order to prevent ants from escaping. It is also very important to feed them well, than they do not try to escpae very often:).
@Shiningforceking11 жыл бұрын
How did you get them to make the colony next to the glass instead than in the middle of the tank?
@socolovsky13 жыл бұрын
The Ytong absorbs water from the container by itself thanks to its porous structure. The entire Ytong shouldn't be wet, becouse ants need some wet and dry chambers as well. The capillary forces that allow the water to go upwards the Ytong are reduced by gravity forces. Thanks to this, the lower parts of Ytong are more wet than the upper parts.
