New PB striper caught on my 12" Dockrat glide bait. (Update) I was able to check the accuracy of my spring scale against my new 100lb digital scale. Both scales read the same weight, and where accurate when weighing 3 gallons of water. Reason being, this fish seemed heavy for the length and it was.

Yup ikr minnow Aka split tail..Any big narrow swimbait with darker silver should be gravy but you gta have right rod and lure action or your wasting your time..7'6"-8' swimbait rod with 5.2-1 gear ratio reel... Slow and steady close to cover or Bott m but keep bait running clean...No weeds so try to rig swimbait weedless if you get right hooks!!!! And most importantly if you catch a big females please take care of her and put her back..She's GTA make more

It’s personal preference. Some baits definitely swim better with a snap or split ring. It’s a lot easier to change lures with a snap so I use them with glide baits, sometimes with a-rigs. I direct tie with soft baits

I understand that thought process. I am biased in my feelings on this.I live in an area where I can go to a local lake and have the opportunity to catch a double digit. Apart of me still feels like In this scenario I may not call a 4 pounder a monster though. Knowing that there are true monsters else where. I could be wrong. I throughly enjoy your content. I want to eventually target giant stripers on giant swimbaits. I'm glad I can learn from others who have done it before me.

That is awesome. I do a lot of swimbaiting for big Largemouth here in SoCal but I'd love to catch a big striper. We have a few SoCal lakes with striper but they are mostly schoolie size and the big ones are difficult to get due to all the pressure. Planning on visiting a friend up North next spring and I'm gonna set aside some time to chase striper. Would appreciate any tips and practicing C&R of course. If you'd rather have me message privately I can do that too

You should have seen how good the striper fishing was 40 years ago in the 1980s. Pyramid, Silverwood the aqueduct in palmdale and lancaster and Sacramento delta was incredible back then. Way less people and fishing pressure then. Hard to believe it was that long ago. I moved out of Cali when it started going down the shitter in the mid 1990s. So I moved to Tennesse to chase the big river stripers here. Good luck get you a 40!

@colbymyers6278
@colbymyers6278 2 жыл бұрын
I use Okuma guide select and Irod genesis 2 rods. If you are throwing baits from 1-8oz get the Okuma guide select xh (2-10oz) rod, or the Irod genesis 2 jumbo swim (4-10oz). If you are throwing above 8oz, get the xxh (5-14oz) guide select, or the bailey mag swim (5-12oz) irod genesis 2. I would choose the guide select (5-14oz) when throwing a 10oz bait. The specific rod in this video is a Okuma SBX Carbon (5-14oz) swimbait rod, throwing a 10oz bait. The SBX is a higher end guide select with a lighter blank, better guides and a full carbon handle. The handle on the sbx is worth the extra money. The Irod Genesis is a lighter, more parabolic rod than the Okuma guide select, but has smaller more delicate guides. The okuma is a heavier, faster action rod, that is pretty indestructible. Both rods are great, especially for the price. I also use these rods for fishing live bait.

What sucks is, that striper is dead. Your catch and release technique is the worst I've seen. Lifted by the gill plate = dead, rope through the gills = dead, kept for extra pics and weighing = dead. The damage to the fish's gills (essentially lungs) that you did means it suffocated shortly thereafter. Beautiful fish, but what's the point of releasing it at that point.

The rope is looped between the gills and the gill plate, so it’s not sliding around. It’s not threaded through the gills. I keep the fish in slow current on the rope so water is always flowing through the gills no matter what, and they don’t have to necessarily be swimming. Similar to releasing big saltwater fish. The rope is so I don’t have to physically touch the fish until it’s revived. I can just leave them alone. I release the fish when it’s swimming strong and upright. I prefer lifting the fish by the gill plate because it’s very strong and actually part of the fishes skull. The jaw is not, and sometimes it’s hard to get a gripper over the jaw on a big fish. There is nothing wrong with holding the fish to revive it, or using a live well. However my live well is small, and I don’t think the average live well circulates enough water. Even a large live well isn’t that big. So I like having them on the rope, in the current, where they can rest for a while.
