The Wat Pho next to the Grand Palace is the oldest temple in Bangkok. Here you will find the magnificent 46 meters long gold plated Reclining Buddha image.
Inside the ubosot is a gold and crystal three-tiered pedestal topped with a gilded Buddha made of a gold-copper alloy, and over the statue is a nine-tiered umbrella representing the authority of Thailand. It was founded in the seventeenth century, making it the oldest temple in Bangkok.
A reclining Buddha is a statue that represents Buddha lying down and is a major iconographic and statuary pattern of Buddhism. It represents the historical Buddha during his last illness, about to enter the parinirvana.
