The biggest caliber gun on a armored tracked vehicle were the Russian ISU 152 and the German Jagdtiger, both Tank Destroyers were armed with a 152 mm anti-tank gun and were used in combat during WW2.
@johntrottier11622 жыл бұрын
Uhhhh - No The largest caliber gun on a tracked vehicle were the German "Karl-Gerät" (German literally "Karl-device"), also known as Mörser Karl They were 600mm and used at the Battle of Sevastopol. Now calling these monsters "self propelled"is, while technically correct, is a bit of a stretch. At 6-8 mph top speed the could move on their own, but did it only to adjust firing positions. The US Army's M12 8" (203mm) self propelled howitzer was used by 6 artillery battalions after the D Day landings until the end of the war. 100 of these were produced. Built on a modified M3 Grant chassis, they qualify as armored tracked vehicles

If you’re firing a 203mm shell it’s not just a matter of slightly longer range. It’s also a much larger explosion than you get with a 155 or a 152mm. A 203mm air burst round is an absolute BEAST!! You had better have extremely robust overhead cover.
@pierrevilley66752 жыл бұрын
To be honest the 2S7 pion has a range advantage against most 152mm guns, and short barreled 155mm, but the long barrel 155mm (52 calibers) have an even bigger range (40+km). I just wonder if the 203 packs enough ka-boom to compensate for its lack of precision compared to modern 155mm modern guns (like the ceasar, or the archer)
