As always, thank you gentlemen for another great video. My vote: Zildjian K Sweets. It seems to me Zildjian really nailed it with the entire K Sweet line. The entire line, to me, is what you'd get if you took Zildjian As and removed (for the K sound) just the right amount of sustain and overtones. Everything, especially the Sweet K crashes, seem to produce the fundamental sound, then get out of the way.

Very nice. You would have been intrigued by my 26" paper thin 1950s A Zildjian Hollow Stamp Ride over my 30" A Zildjian China. Their profiles melded seamlessly and the sound was unlike anything else!

The Istanbul combination was really nice. That Istanbul pairing and the K Sweets were my personal picks, but I still feel playing on hats bigger than 15” is just a bit strange - at least for me.

The best high hat cymbals I've ever owned were (are) Zildjian "Quick Beats" in 15" that I bought in 1980 which then were considered large as 14" were more or less the standard. So when I heard 17" I almost fell through the floor, but they were my favorite. I'd have to sit with them at a kit to see how they positioned overall and if I could get use to them, but they really surprised me.

I have a half dozen 16" crash cymbals of various weights and manufacturers and I use them all for hi hats. Just mix and match until I find the combination I like on any given day.

Last time I was in, I paired a 16" Xist Natural, and a 16" OM Crash or a 16" Traditional Dark and those were nice too. I didn't purchase yet but it's on my list for the future.

Nice demo, as always! I've been using Paiste Traditionals Thin /Paiste Twenty 16 as my go to hats for almost 20 years, it's an awsome combo. As I do have the Traditionals thin crashes in 18 and 20, I think I might have to look for an 18 dark energy crash:)

The Zildjian K Sweet were very nice but the Istanbul and Meinl were much dryer. I really like them all to be honest. I love big, thin cymbals.

My favorite 16" hi hats were the Meinl Mb10 Fat Hats. Played a set at my local drum store one day and loved the tone. Sadly, the Mb10 cymbals are no more, and I have yet to find a different pair of hats that have the same vibe (even from Meinl.)

I already own the zildjian k sweet 16 inch hats for about 3 years since they came out and love them . As in the video they have a very articulate stick tone and when you wash them you don’t drown everything else out . The only con I notice with all hats of this size is more air between the cymbals so less chick sound , I bet if the bottom hat had a few drilled holes you’d get a more pronounced chick ! But that being said of all the ones you displayed I’m still happy to that me the k sweets still have my vote 👍🏼

My vote are the Zildjian K Sweets as well. I used Dream cymbals and use a 16" Bliss crash on top of a 16 Energy crash (bottom), they're very nice.

I've owned a 16" Meinl CC Dark Crash now for years. Haven't played it since I got my first 20" crash. Looking to get either the same model or the heavier version of it. Might fit my band perfect (metalcore/hardcore/deathcore).

I had a pair of the 15 k sweet hats and they did not at all like any demos online. Really clangy and metallic. Ended up trading them for 15 k light hats which are incredible.

I have to say... I LOVE K Sweets, and have been debating on getting a set of 15". After hearing this... I actually like the 16" quite a bit, and I actually think I like the Byzance, Istanbul and Sabian combos even better. That's saying a lot because I'm a huge Zildjian nerd. I was curious as to why you didn't do the 16" or 17" Paiste Sound Edge? Those would have been cool to hear compared to the others.

I liked the Sweet hats and Byzance. Probably what I liked, however, is that they were higher pitched and sounded the most like a normal sized hat. I might get a pair to use on special occasions, but I'll stick to the 13-15 range for most purposes.

K sweets sound great as far as hats go... But I think if I had to pick one I would go for the steve jordan. the K sweets sound close enough to a regular 14 or 15" hat, but the 17" paistes have the 'big' sound that gives something different

I actually use the same Istanbul combo but in 17". Love them! Recently got keyhole damage on it too from my clutch :/ Bought that same Tama clutch. Surprised it's the only clutch in the market with a plastic sleeve.

I have the same Tama clutch (it's the one that came with the Speed Cobra stand), and as soon as I tried it, I replaced the red plastic piece on top with a regular felt, so no hard plastic in contact with the bell of the top cymbal. Other than that is a great clutch, the quick release system works fine and the plastic sleeve you said is great. I can't understand why most brands still allow that cymbal hole-steel threads contact in most clutches in the market. That sleeve should be as standard in hi hat clutches as it is in cymbal stands.

@@isihernandez9752 ooo I think I’m going to do the same replacing the red piece. That was the only thing about the clutch I wasn’t really liking. I agree though, plastic sleeve in clutches should be the norm. I thought about buying this clutch a couple years ago and told myself I didn’t need it. Until recently that I discovered key hole damage on my top HH was bumming. My HH was on right too, rested on the sleek part of the metal, and I use my HH only a bit loosened before it’s tight so It wasn’t flying all over the place.

I never saw or heard afaik sand hats before and I like them. My main hats are 13 ufip zanki. I used a pair of páiste 16 2002 crashes for a fun changeup when jamming with a band before but I think it's too expensive to justify buying big hats specifically.

Great video, although I was little surprised by how much they were all buried in the mix a bit. Couldn't hear the nuances over the snare, but the ending solos definitely helped.

Several of those sounded OK, some even quite good. But meh... I just can't bring myself to buying a set of bigger hats. I already have 2 pairs of 15" hats - Zildjian New Beats and Zildjian Sweet Hats, and for a softer, lower-pitched sound I find using the tops of both together works very well, especially since the K bottom is quite heavy (credit to KZbinr RDavidR for the idea to put together that combo). I've got lots of old 16" crash cymbals that I experimented with to make interesting combinations too, especially when you take a thin crash for top and medium or medium thin for bottom. You get similar tone to some of the darker combinations of big hats, but still somewhat playable. I've tried playing 17" hats which are part of a house kit I use regularly and I hate them. They are too big to position and play comfortably, and just too slow for any footwork. They do make a nice wash when played half-open, but that was it. So I'll keep on with my 15's for most situations.
