1974 was a bad year although I was very young. The Vikings lost to the Dolphins in the Super Bowl. And I think Dennis Rader committed his first murders right afterwards. Maybe Nixon resigned too. And gas prices doubled overnight, I think from 25 cents a gallon to 50 although I wasn’t paying so I can’t remember exactly. I just remember my dad swearing up a storm when he had to fill a 30-gallon tank. But seriously I was very young so my memory is pretty hazy.

Saw Rare Earth (minus Peter Rivera) in the old Holiday Inn in Midland, Michigan back in June of 1993. Then I saw & met Peter Rivera during the "Classic Rock All Stars" concert at the Midland County Fairgrounds in Midland, MI back in August of 2005. The song "Big John Is My Name" almost reminds me of The Jackson 5 song "Whatever You Got, I Want" also from 1974.

Saw these guys at the world of wheels car show in Denver, Colorado back about 1985. What a treat after listening to them for many years on the radio.

I don’t really remember these guys since I was really young and it wasn’t exactly my cup of tea. But they seem to have this “controlled chaos” thing going on that’s interesting. I don’t know their history but they have some elements of New Orleans sounds to me. I went there once and had one too many Hurricanes. I luckily walked back safely to my hotel near Bourbon Street though.

The guy on the bass looks a heck of a lot like the one and only Skunk. Although he's a bit too tall i think.

“Rare Earth.” I suppose if these guys had been born, oh, 40 years later or so, they might’ve not become musicians and instead worked for Tesla.
