I LOVE exoterra! All of their tanks look so amazing and I have used their hides and waterdishes before! I just got my first exo terra ( a 12x12x12 ) when it was on sale for almost 50% off. I think I am going to get land snails ( preferably milk snails ) to house in it since most reptiles are to big for that small of a tank.

The Exo terra halogen basking spot has a spot beam which can be dangerous. An incandescent with a flood like beam is preferred to avoid spots or halos and to cover the reptile's entire body, or even better, their entire warm side. Exo Terra daylight basking spot bulb has a flood beam despite the packaging saying that it's a spot. You can tell if a lamp will truly have a spot or flood beam by looking at the end of the bulb, if it's not cloudy and you can clearly see the tungsten filament inside the bulb then it will produce a spot beam. If the end is cloudy, covering the tungsten filament then it is likely to have a flood beam. ZooMed repti basking spot has a clouded end and will produce a better beam than Exo Terra's halogen basking spot but its beam is not as wide as Exo terra's daylight basking spot bulb or Thrive's essential basking spot bulb.

This is perfect timing for me! I’m going to my local reptile rescue tomorrow, Kritter Krazy, to pick up my Leopard Gecko. I’m really excited. I have an overhead heat light with UVB as well as heat mat for the warm side, but I’ll remove that based on your advice.

Heat pads are still fine to use if you want to use both! But a halogen bulb will provide the infrared rays ☺️

@@EmmaLynneSampson ok great! I’m glad I can use the heat mat with the controller. The bulb is Halogen. And I verified that I have Calcium without D3 now that I’m giving her UVB. I have the same Exo Terra cave as you, but in small. Will that be ok? That’s what was recommended to me.

I would like to say I have switched my Leo to above tank heat it is amazing to see them basking in the morning and at night but just a warning during the winter the will enter a stage simulation to Brumation glad to see the which you and pepper will like it a lot

So I am confused haha. I tried asking a gecko page. But I got a shadedweller prot5 and I'm confused as to how high to place the lamp. My tank is 18" tall can someone please help all the maps have been confusing me

I have a question. So I have a leopard gecko and I recently gave her UVB. I've changed her to a heat lamp and she lays under it. But when I turn on the UVB she hides.

That’s normal. Leopard geckos are crepuscular and they don’t naturally come out during the day when the sun is bright. Instead they usually come out in the early morning and the evening when the sun isn’t as strong. Even if she spends most of the day hiding, she’s likely still benefiting from it a bit! Someone they will poke their tail or leg out of the hide in order to absorb some UVB while still remaining mostly hidden
