@deeplynluv Not only that, if I don't find it written in the Bible, I won't regard, much less abide by, it whatsoever! As far as I'm concerned, IF it's something God Himself doesn't care about, why should I?! Furthermore, even if I were formally associated with ANY church, I wouldn't consider myself accountable to it's leader(s) for my actions, LEAST OF ALL concerning my private life (that's between God, myself and whoever else may or may not be involved with that aspect of my life) and if they wanted to "excommunicate" me or have a "trial" (hmm, I didn't know I was under arrest; nevertheless, may God forgive if what I'm saying as sarcasm might be considered blasphemy to Him), then, I'd let them know they're going to do no such thing because I QUIT their phoney little cult and, if I had a wife and/or children or even grandchildren for that matter, I'd make it a point to pull them away from there (better safe than sorry; again, may God forgive me IF I'm being blasphemous in ANY way; outside of that, I don't owe ANYONE ELSE an apology, much less anything else)!

My bishop asked me about my underwear when I was still a member of the LDS church. This depiction of a disciplinary council shows how church members are expected to answer to the men in suits that the church sets up as "authorities." Members of the Mormon Church are unable to move past the mentality of a child, because they are never encouraged to trust their own judgment. They are continually encouraged to look to an authority outside themselves for approval. It's really quite sad.
@BrianTerrill2 жыл бұрын
The bishop asked you in a temple recommend question or in a disciplinary council? If one were of the belief that 1)Baptism is essential, and 2) that it must be performed by Priesthood Authority, and that 3) Baptisms can be performed vicariously (in behalf of another), and that 4)the individual is obliged to perform the work, the intentions of that individual in performing the work are likely not malevolent, but rather benevolent. I know we are asked if we wear the garment as we promised in our temple recommend interviews but the way it is thrown out in this act just makes it look fake qnd of course the lds critics will be cheering it. Interesting how the same critics damn us for our polygamist past are now damning us for not allowing a fictional lady in a polygamist relationship to continue church membership. Plus, the cancelation of sealing is separate from being excommunicated

Idk much about the LDS church but any church under any religion whose leaders admit their policies matter more than the truth have left God and have no power over the salvation of others.

@LamaaraShishani will be allowed to keep their church membership. Also they wouldn't be asked to leave their purse outside lol. Even then they can still come to church if they want and participate in anything, so long as it doesn't clash with what they did (For example a child rapist would not be allowed near the building as per they're parole.). But they can't get callings. It's not a judgment of if they get into heaven or not. It' just about their membership, nothing more.

@bearysher I'm not a Mormon but if you abuse the teachings, what do you expect? If you are discovered to embrace a heresy in the Catholic Church, you are excommunicated (unless you repent). What exactly would you have the LDS do? She was given the chance to renounce, she refused, and she was excommunicated. There are plenty of polygamist sects she can join.

@awolLDSasap The LDS church certainly denounced the practice of Polygamy, and you also right, its still considered an Eternal Principle, and the Church certainly still teaches that it is a Holy practice. Could it not be the case that the Lord saw that to maintain the practice of Polygamy would lead to even more imprisonment of the LDS, and the further confiscation of both Real and Personal Assets (in 1877 the Church was Dis-incorporated, and its Property taken, aswell as all funds of the church.

When youre on the Mormon side of things though, leaving is a scary thing to consider. What is true then? Is this Satan tempting me? Will I become a loser, druggy, drunk, etc? I can attest that their was a lot of fear I faced when leaving the LDS religion that I never realized existed until I was on my way out. Church members are so used to living with the fear, they don't even see it's there. Like I said, it's really quite sad.

That's really interesting. I'm Anglican, we have priests from seminary and deacons, ect. What would be considered a punishment deemed worthy I mean outside of polygamy ect. We had a neighbor who was very against alcohol (even thought it was a social gathering and the block was invited) and was mormon. Can drinking alcohol, smoking ect. things like that deem this sort of thing? To get excommunicated as an Angican is hard. Although remarrying after divorce is an absolute no.

It’s actually pretty hard to get excommunicated from the church. Smoking, drinking even doing drugs won’t get you excommunicated. Cheating on one’s spouse, or say practice polygamy... those will .

Okay, now I understand why that would be a huge deal. I don't know much about things like that. I know a few Mormons and never wanted to ask them about garments things like that because we (Protestants and Catholics) are not sure if those things actually exist, what they are for ect. We hear alot of different versions about them but in a completely different way. I thought the whole story line was kind of useless since she excommunicated herself by leaving the LDS church and she knew it.

@awolLDSasap As mentioned earlier, God did command Israelites to take their brother's Widow as their wife, and to raise an heir up, thru this additional wife. That instruction certainly appears to be from God. I fear that questioning the Divine Origin of these passages may undermine the legitimacy of large sections of the Old Testament. I would further cite that Christ's Ancestors, both Abraham and Jacob, as being Blessed to be his Ancestors, while, to their dying day, they practiced Polygamy.

@skmannes Will it be too late when your life ends and you find that Jesus is not your spirit brother and God is not the loving heavenly father you were taught? Are you going to put your trust in men that say "I have authority, follow me" or put all of your trust in the eternal God?

@VictorLepanto The teaching of polygamy for the Mormon church isn't simply heterodoxy, because that implies it can be tolerated. The Mormon Church had long condemned polygamy, on the pain of excommunication. At any rate, I'm not sure where you see that homosexuality specifically is what is being "substituted." I can see that in a show like True Blood, but I can't really see it here. Then again I haven't watched this show that much. I personally saw it as being sympathetic toward polygamy.

@JAMaddict I think its important to avoid attacking others, for the sake of attacking, or harming. I think we can find examples of The Savior teaching against certain practices contemporary to his time. I think one can also conclude that His teachings greatly offended, or otherwise bothered some who heard. But i don't think that he harbored the intention of personally attacking anyone, rather, that he sought to properly value the activity, while maintaining the value of the individual.

First of all you will never annoy any Mormon by asking us questions we love to answer them. What you were just seeing was a sort of hearing that is held within the Church when it is discovered that a member is involved in things that go directly against our beliefs, and if the member refuses to take aid from the church in correcting their ways excommunication is a possibility. In the church we wear sacred garments to remind us of the covenants we make within the temple.

I kind of wonder, I Ran across Big Love and found it interesting and I also have met ex mormons LDS, who say there are members of the LDS church that practice polygamy and are not open about it and still attend LDS services. I wonder how true it is and how often it happens in Mormon populated states? Just more of a sociological question. I wonder if people are excommunicated or if it is an open secret. Not judging just curious. I heard it happens alot.

It's a small community. Rumors spread like fire unless you are out it. You can keep it secret as long as you're able to. Once busted you are reported and sent to the Bishop. If you do not comply to what the Bishop asked and get caught again then your case goes to the disciplinary council of the Stake to decide whether you are dismissed (membership removal or excommunication) or not.

There are break off sects of the LDS church that practice polygamy. If a member of the LDS church is found to be practicing polygamy, yes . They are excommunicated.
