This scene always enrages me. It's quintessential Bill, the knows-it-all who feels he can go against his wifes' feelings, desires, thoughts, etc. because he knows what's best for them and deep down, doesn't really believe in their agency. Beautiful serie, but Bill was such a douche often times. Of course, he looks nice because we mostly see him in contrast with Roman and Alby, but when you think about it, he was kind of a jerk, especially around that episode.

I am not a polygamist, but to me it seems as natural as regular marriage. marriages itself is a social construction and the fact that certain forms of marriages are labeled wrong is ridiculous. if you want to have two wives, what's wrong with that. if that's how you choose to live that should be your right as long as you're not hurting anyone else. Individual Liberty!!! it's not just a phrase you can use to make yourself seem more tolerate and open minded, you actually have to abide by it.

Since fathers are important to a child's development, this would hurt the child. Wives would also get less ressources for themselves and their children. SHe would also get less of a say in her marriage, because there are so many people to consider and less emotional support for a very trying living situation.

It isn't that Polygamy, in the definition of the term, is bad. There is nothing wrong with consenting adults being involved in a polygamous or polyamorous. History has however shown us that amongst the polygamous community there is a staggering amount of abuse and criminal behavior. And while this is indeed factual it is not evidence that all who willing chose the ideals are bad. In the absence of abuse a polygamous relationship is not any different than a polyamorous relationship. Yet we protect the latter with acceptance and peace. To be clear. The abuse that is often intertwined in the polygamous community is not due to plural marriage but to evil, disgusting, and criminal people. The history of all cultures, and/or religions have controversial past , present, and likely future wrongdoings. ((Disclaimer 😆- I am not in any way related to polygamous communities, the FLDS, or similar ideals. Just want to remind others (and myself) that not all humans are ill intended even when the majority are.))

This show is a big fantasy. It's pretty naive to think that jealousies will not be present in polygamous marriages. If you want to know what the truth of human nature is, read Emanuel Swedenborg. Ironically Joseph Smith ( the concoctor of Mormonism, for those of you who don't know) read him, but didn't come to understand it.

@ThePassion81: That there are OTHER forms of abuse doesn't mean that an abuse is not still an abuse. As for Rachel Leah, it is ultimately their father who pushs theme into polygamy. Jacob is tricked into the practice. It is noteworthy that men like Warren Jeffs push girls into this lifestyle as way of advancing their own power w/int their sects. Women become bargaining chips, commodities to be used in political wealing & dealing. This is the reality which lies behind polygamy.

HBO are little better then pornographers. You see what is being done here w/ this show. Polygamy is a stand in for homosexuality. They made that clear in their 1st episode. The theme of homosexuality runs through this whole show. As it does through EVERYTHING that HBO produces. It was in the Sopranos. That show was meant as an attack on the traditonal family also.
