For those wondering why we kept driving away from the shark the reason was because the fish hadn't used any energy or out up a fight and we did not want them near is until they were spent. The last thing you want to do is gaff or trace a large mako before it's used up most of it's energy. They can be very wild crazy animals so just keeping away from them unt they've atleast spent some energy. We don't want one jumping in the boat or biting our boat causing damage.

Righto I think it's fine that they kept one shark for a feed. As long as they used it all and wasted nothing then it's fine. It's perfectly legal to take one and its a sustainable fishing industry with size and catch limits that are heavily in forced in Victoria. Plus the shark was actually gut hooked and that could decrees it's survival if set free (not by much of course because these sharks are very tough) the real problem that sharks face is the over fishing from shark finning and so on. If you Are really that worried about mako sharks survival then how about you go talk to all the people that catch them illegally and in huge numbers instead of cracking it at someone who is doing something thats sustainable and perfectly legal

While I personally love shark fishing, I would never kill a shark. But I also respect the law and the opinion of others; What you did, I would not do. What you did do, was also perfectly legal and fine. You did absolutely 100% nothing wrong. The only people doing something wrong here, are those complaining, that you followed the law. They want you to abide by *their* laws and rules. They are the dumb fucks, who live in our society, that force their own rules and laws onto others. They are the dictators.

Im very dissapointed that you guys decided to keep one of the sharks you caught. As knowledgable fisherman you should understand the importance of catch and release....and Sustainability. ESPECIALLY with sharks. It is everyones right to keep what they catch but imagine if everyone did keep what they caught! Our oceans would be depleted in no time. And unfortunately It looks like thats where we are headed. If everyone has the "Right" to keep a fish, they should also have the "Duty/Responsibility" to help keep the ocean that we love in good health. Instead of taking from it you should try to "give back" to it.
