I agree! I just returned from a wild mobile camping safari in Botswana. Heard lions around every night, and one night a lion came in our camp. That's the risk I took, but definitely worth it for the incredible experience.

Extremely rare that a lion will enter a tent if it's closed. I just returned from a mobile camping safari in Botswana. My guide who's very experienced, said the lion sees the tent as a large object, like a safari vehicle, not something that poses a threat. Felt totally safe inside my tent even with wildlife around.

The lion was at night close to the tent , and then came back on daytime to explore the area and the tent . You can see that he was very curious wat inside the tent . It is possible that he returns again because he smell people inside the tent . . It is very scary !

I knew exactly how that feel, I did camping in Africa but no lions came close. It was here in North America I had a bear woke me up in the middle of the night, feel like every hair on my body was stand up I thought that would be my last day in this world. Once outside got quiet a little bit I quickly ran to the canoe in the dark and leave every other things behind.

Well safaris in Africa usually camp in places like this. Serengeti was all out in the open and this year I had a similar experience, except the lion roars were not just outside the tent but super closeby. Also had hyenas laugh right next to my ear just the other side of the tent textile basically.. and coyotes fighting too. I freaked out at some point, thinking an animal went inside my tent in the pitch dark, but it turned out to be the wind blowing the tent. It could be super scary in the middle of the night waking up, pitch black, as if you still have your eyes closed and hearing the animals around. But you have no gun, not even a fork :D nada, you just sit there, keep quiet and hope for the best.

Lots of Americans, including me, backpack and camp where there are Black and Grizzly bears and Mountain Lions. We carry bear spray and some carry guns. Yes there is some risk, but I consider the drive to the trailhead the most dangerous part of the trip.

I always use yellow parachute cord for my guy lines, or at least hang strips of aluminum foil from regular lines. That way African Lions won't trip over them in low light conditions. At least I've never had it happen. How did you get that urine smell out of your sleeping bags?
