Rig 538 off of Matagorda (40 miles from Freeport) held a very large school of Gray (mangrove) snapper for over 30 years - the school grew and grew in size and number. 1st shot, easy. 2nd shot difficult 3rd shot required very hard stalking, they would then leave the rig. Most rigs near Freeport are now gone. I shot several in the 12 to 14 pound area the last few times I was there. I first shot that rig in 1972, back then it was full of warsaw and big red snapper (scuba days then) started freediving in 1975 in the USVI.

this is real man fishing. Ive fished for years and until i started freediving, i never knew how difficult it was to "just shoot a fish" theres alot more required of you. Im starting out with spades and little mangroves near freeport. I can go about 10 feet down now. Just starting out though
