Wait, Fuji is really making a fixed-lens GFX? I've been dreaming about this camera for years. Holy shit! Owned an X100F, X100V, GA645i and now a Leica Q. This is big news!

Ricoh's APSC mono sensor is great. You have to have tried one to really know. There is at least two stops better ISO performance and a bit higher resolution but more importantly the tonality is far superior than what you get with a converted RAW image form a Bayer or trans X sensor. I know as I have the K3 iii Monochrome. Is it worth the cost? That depends. I take about 70% B&W to 30% colour and I think in my case just about so.If you take less than me, probably not. If more yes. I have to agree though about the disappointing build of the GR cameras.

The large format sensor has a big high ISO quality and exposure stops advantage. If you think you can get by with iso 6400 on fuji X100V, on a medium format sensor you could use 25.600 with similar results. So no problem with f3.5 for shutter speed and the depth of field at f3.5 on medium format is like 2.4 on full frame or 1.8 on APSC

I agree. I’ve seen videos and the iso performance out of digital medium format is mind glowingly good. The dynamic range is just out of this world

I just wanted to update this as I've seen some more rumours and specs on a few different sites. I don't have a problem with the 3.5 because that's really 2.8 on medium format but not putting ibis in the camera. I really don't understand that step at all given that this will be largely a street camera and in street Photography are often in situations where you're in low light because you know streets do block light sometimes I don't think it's a good idea and I think for the price of it it's really just a regenerated 50 R. I know from a nostalgia point of view that people will really enjoy the dials if they go that way but I just don't see the point of not having ibis..... I have two GFX cameras already and if I wanna make one of them small I would get the 50 mm 3.5 which is a very small pancake lens. I don't own it but if I wanted to I could go down that way and it would be far cheaper than buying this camera alone with a 3.5 now this 3.5 probably may have a leaf shutter in it..... But I'm surprised that it doesn't have ibis. It's funny, mate. I'm swapping over to an X100Vi from an XT5 because I use my GFX camera so much for my professional work, I want something smaller. Plus the flash plus ND filter....

The Fuji fixed-lens MF will succeed--*if* the price point is right. $2499? $2999 I think you're wrong about a GR IV Mono; that will be a monster hit for Ricoh if they offer one. Who says you need FF for monochrome; you need a good lens, and Ricoh's is excellent. By the way, re build quality, I've had both the GR II and III for years and have shot thousands of images with each with no problems. It's not fair to compare build quality on cameras that are so disparately priced as Ricoh and Leica.

I absolutely agree with you, Tudor about all these points - especially about the Ricoh GR's build quality being too sensitive. I had 4 copies, all die way too soon. It doesn't make sense. Leica, Fujifilm, Nikon Zf for those of us who are more demanding about quality, though no camera is perfect.

I think they'll go 50 which is 40mm ...40mm is perfect. GFX is 3.5 isn't the same....with medium format ISO is basically not a consideration. I own two medium format cameras. Given that most lenses are sharpest at 3.5 and above this will be really sharp and given that it's medium format no one shoots at F1 .7 anyway so if you have to push the ISO up it doesn't matter

There is more to Monochromeme sensors than taking a color filter array off a color programmed camera/sensor. I wish people on the internet would research this before making such claims of being No difference and what is involved with conversions vs. dedicated M cameras

I am using a Lumix S5ii with the voigtlander 40mm f1.2 VM Aspherical Nokton ( jesus that's a long name). I am getting amazing results that resemble medium format in feel. If the S9 had a mechanical shutter and a viewfinder I would be very happy :)

So, since Ricoh makes such bad cameras and too expensive, what is the alternative..... what is a better alternative ( not Leica as is 5 times more expensive )..... looking for fairly small APS-C camera... that can compete with Ricoh on size, price, image quality and build quality?

I use an old Olympus EPL7 for street photography and I'm in heaven. Don't miss anything and totally reliable after all these years.

@@paul-erikhansen5769 The question, is why a new camera? There are many very capable secondhand cameras at a fraction of the cost of new. As an example the Leica Q is still a wonderful camera, but I cannot afford it so it still use the EPL7. Do take a look and I am sure you will be surprised.
