I've really enjoyed using the Ricoh GRD...GRIIIx over the last 20 years; no regrets - they have been everywhere. Sadly now with my aging eyesight, a diopter corrected viewfinder is a must, so I cashed out of the system... hopefully the GR IV will remain small, pocketable and slim, but with a little longer body or clip on options of an EVF and flash ( like the Olympus XA ).

I tested the normal Ricoh GRIII with 27mm and even though the size of the camera was impressive and the sensor was very capable, I was rather disappointed with the GRIII. It's just way too expensive in my country for the experience it offers. No good app support (Ricoh's app is pretty horrible), no viewfinder, very bad video quality, poor battery life and dated autofocus. I know that many people love this compact camera, but is definitely not for everyone. The moment I picked up my Fuji XT-30 again, I noticed how much I missed it while experimenting with the Ricoh. The GRIII has its audience and I respect this fascinating piece of hardware, but it's just way too expensive and for sure needs a successor.

Mpb used prices on the Ricoh are so ridiculous that a Fuji XM5 and 3rd party 27mm pancake are a better, newer, more capable, and cheaper option.

They aren't far off from the prices I have seen on eBay. Of course the prices are higher if you buy the "like new" condition. But if you wait for one in "good" condition to come in stock the price is very similar to eBay.

But neither of those options are truly pocketable... That's why they are so desired 👌🏼

Until I held a tiny GR3 in my hand next to my smallest Fuji’s with pancake lenses, there’s simply no comparison size wise. If size isn’t #1 priority there are many options.

Felix, you're still so underrated. Can't wait for that subcounter to hit 100K. Also, don't ever forget how beautiful your girlfriend is 🫡. Nice images, really cool camera. I splurged almost €2000 on a X-S20 but if I had money in abundance I would get a GRIIIx and always have it in mn pocket

I appreciate the kind words!! Hitting 100k some day is definitely the dream 😉

I bought the iiiX maybe..hm...6 months ago. Just put it up for sale last week and got full price for it. This camera is in FULL demand, Felix. It's a great camera. Does everything nicely. I just wanted to go in another direction. Great great camera. (And wonderful post! As always.) This music, though. ;)

Thank you Chris! It's definitely not for everyone, but yeah it is in very high demand considering it's a bit older already haha. At least it holds its value well :)

@futc.photography don't get me wrong. I think it's pretty much the ideal camera for anyone as a secondary or backup camera at least

I simply couldn't get into the GRIII. The lack of a viewfinder was too much for me, and having to spend an extra $250 on Ricoh's external viewfinder attachment is stupid. May as well get an x100 series at that point. Which is what I did. Haven't looked back since.
@futc.photography3 сағат бұрын
Yeah if you really need a viewfinder it's probably hard to get used to this camera 😅

Hoping for a flash, better autofocus and low light performance in the GRIV

GR ii with flash is better. The positive film setting looks more authentic to real film. And the flash is clutch!

Wow, you really like yellow, orange, and purple, don't you? 🤣 Not my thing but great pictures nonetheless. Good going. And don't put yourself down for subjects that attract you like the antenna station. Your taste in subject is a big part of what makes your work unique.

I had an rx 100 iv for a few days a while back (had to send it back unfortunately because the screen was defective). It was super fun and the form factor was great, but honestly the GR IIIx image quality is in a different league.

Stop shilling presets. The only reason anyone would buy one is because they’re uninformed. Even if they don’t feel like learning how to edit, most editing software has built in & community presets for free

Respectfully, the man's gotta feed his family. Let him be. The editing software free presets ain't free. You're still paying for it.
