Thank you very much ! This was an amazing video !! I’ve struggled with each one of the mistakes that you had pointed out. And since i’m basically a self taught, I had to reinvent the wheel on each separate step. I even came to the same conclusion in terms of how to practice my alternating single strokes on the bass drum, but it took me years to get to this point. Your video could have helped me a lot years ago. Cheers, man !

yeah dude, it's exactly this problem, i'm stuck exactly because of my bass drum speed and burning with this heel down thing i was thinking about changing to some sort of ankle motion, but there's too much techniques like you said it's very confusing, and all of them seems kind of hard to learn Thanks for the video! Great stuff

this is Absolute gold ...Really wish I saw this when I was 10 years younger ...took me 3 years almost without playing to reset and restart without all them mistakes I was constantly doing ...I was able to play awfully up to 260 bpm with the obsession to just go faster as result I was almost unable to control the pedal from 150 to 200 bpm ..I'm slowly re learning everything in the right way now focusing just on volume of strokes and precision ,and as soon as i get again sloppy slow down 😅

Very informative. I have made some of these mistakes. I think a big reason I am having issues is pedal settings. I play on Trick pedals which I love but I noticed in this video you have the footboard angled up at 45 degrees with the beater at 45 degrees. Back to the kit to adjust!
@salbausone Жыл бұрын
I also have trick pedals is it just me or is it very hard to have control with them? I got them around a month ago
@andys3035 Жыл бұрын
@@salbausone they are very responsive but one of the smoothest flatboard pedals out there. Pearl's demon pedals are good too. You just have to keep messing with the settings.

Two other points are proper height of stool too low or too high and position of pedals .funny when u play single bass drum your foot is straight right in front of you .if you play 2 bass drums with 2 separate pedals left and right foot are at angles but I see people with double pedals position the double pedal like a single straight in front .I personally use a double pedal but set it up like it was attached to 2 separate basses and it makes it so much easier to play double pedal naturally like double bass drums .try see if it makes a difference

Hey Marthyn, I love your entire content, man! I was rejected by your DTAcademy because I'm a single pedal drummer but I really want to learn your method to develop my ankle technique properly even with just one foot: how can I do that? I've seen on your personal website u have a bass drum mastery program and was wondering if that might work applied on single pedal playing. Maybe u can help me out in finding a solution, so please let me know 🤝 HUGE THANKS Andrea
@marthynjovanovic Жыл бұрын
Hey Andrea. Thank you for your kind words. Regarding Bass Drum Mastery: you will learn the same technique (ankle technique with this course) for right and left foot... so it doesn't really matter if you play a single or double bass pedal. Just be aware that in later weeks of the course, the focus shifts more and more to double bass exercises (which you can follow just with your right foot)... Have an amazing day!

I just got my first double pedal today and I suck 😢 watched hours of videos, can play 200bpm with right foot and 160 with left, but never tried both, just didn't work as I expected, in any bpm at all 😂 How I get started?
@3dartstudio007 Жыл бұрын
Just like he showed here. Hold onto the snare, and start a steady beat with both feet. Not super fast, just keep both feet going and start to add high hat and snare. Voodoo by Godsmack is a good tempo song for this practice.
@BrianGodsell-yq1kc Жыл бұрын
Really dude,just and play even,steady strokes eventually increasing speed as you feel more confident, double kick is hard work and takes time,you will get there,take your time
@BrianGodsell-yq1kc Жыл бұрын
Sorry, I left out just slow down and play even,my bad,good luck

Im pretty much new drummer so i have a question. Is it possible to struggle with double bass drumming if you have really cheap pedals with low quality springs for example. Or its all about techique and muscle memory, and higher quality pedals just give out better feeling while playing?????
@marthynjovanovic Жыл бұрын
Hey. I answer this question in this following video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmfYq3Wch9irY7csi=cUan4csXJwXw031v

One thing I've seen is that if you learn double pedal with chain drives you'll have a harder time to adapt to direct drives. I got a DD for my first pedal, and it's amazing because you can't fail in your technique. DD shows any flaws you have in your movement, and you're forced to fix

Slide your foot up on the pedal... it does wonders. Who plays where there foot is half off the pedal?
@3dartstudio007 Жыл бұрын
You've got a point about foot placement, but playing full force and having your foot completely on the pedal isn't necessarily going to make your playing as "fast" as possible. With the foot closer to the pedal pivot point, the foot moves a lot less distance up and down than it does when it is near the beater. Less kinetic energy in the leg to change direction at faster speeds = less energy spent. Also the players legs make a difference. The length and weight of leg is going to make a difference to playing as well. I'll admit longer heavier legs SUK at going fast for long periods of time. So yes, foot closer to the beater for more power and volume, closer to the base of the pedal for faster speed

I think the mistake people make is starting with a double kick. Learn time and patterns with single kick. I can't stand seeing people playing terrible bass fills in songs devoid of high hat

Wouldn’t you want the spring tension always pretty low for double bass drumming? You wouldn’t want a high spring tension
@C_475 Жыл бұрын
a higher spring tension would bring the beater back faster so if you were going for extreme speed you would want that quick recovery time and at that point you would have the strength and endurance built up
