The best part of this channel is that its not focused on one single technique but rather its focusing on science and biology. This channle changed everything ❤

Dont forget about practicing full leg motion guys. I was too obsessed with 180bpm plus that I unlearned my body to do 100-140. I'm serious. Now have to learn it back, no joking and its hard
@krzysztofwaclawski9002 Жыл бұрын
I think Marthyn pointed it out somewhere that your body gets accustomed to whatever is easiest. That's what happened. So yeah now when I sit down to drums always do full leg motion for a while

Absolutely. I’m not a double bass player or even super fast, but I wanted to learn the ankle technique for faster single bass playing. I was so focused on that that I basically lost control and balance for full leg strokes. So now I’m focusing hard to regain control of that. Marthyn and your videos both are amazing and inspiring.

The video barely even started for me but I gotta say that leaving the mic on your glasses is a BRILLIANT move hahahahaha I loved it

If you have pedal mounted triggers, you can still hear the hits doing the pedal bounce exercise as the pedal will contact the trigger, meaning that you can practice to a click track to ensure your hits are in time and tight.

I really like the new style of your videos! New “studio”, new inserts, new glasses! Very cool! 😎

Hi guys and tnk Marthyn! I try this exercise right now and my calves are burning now, super cool exercise...and super soft!
@ConstantineJajas Жыл бұрын
This actually works, after just under a week and I can already feel "faster". Picked up the drums again and this really helped. The actual tuning of this happens behind the kit but it works the calve muscles and makes you more aware when engaging them without twitching.

awesome, I have accidentally done this practice while at work and needing to use the restroom but have to finish something I am working on first. LOL Seriously though, thanks for the advice. I wondered if pulling the peddles off the kit and just practicing with them alone would be good or bad, Guess I know what I'm doing this weekend 🙂

Every time I attempt the ankle technique on the actual kit my feet tend to sync up and hit in unison. I don't know what to do to get them to alternate
@krzysztofwaclawski9002 Жыл бұрын
I often get that too, don't think about it too much, thats the paradox I know, don't know if that's any value to you but I start from my left foot, think that helped a bit. And yeah, often helps to do these rounds of just left and just right
@felixdorn217 ай бұрын
Thx man, I try to learn the ankle technique as well right now. What I don’t understand is: does the heel have to move up and down/is it stomping to make it work? or do I just lift it up at the start and keep it a bit above in the air? It doesn’t stay on the pedal like the ball of the foot right?

Marthyn, do you REALLY think the type/brand of pedal makes a significant difference in learning or reaching 300 bpm? If so, is it the adjustability of that particular pedal? I think I've seen you use Pearl Eliminator, Axis Longboards...(and others?). Or...can a drummer reach 300 bpm no matter what brand/pedal (within reason) if the drummer uses the right practice technique? Dánke
@drumtechniqueacademy Жыл бұрын
Yes, I REALLY think the player makes more of a difference than the pedal... 😁 kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmfYq3Wch9irY7csi=p6MCOdkb_HDSv30t

@@drumtechniqueacademy AND....I just saw your instagram ad/post in which you basically say "adjust the pedal for your bodyweight." So, I imagine a LOT of pedals are just fine to learn to play double bass to 300 bpm. Cheers from the US

Hi! Question to You all about the flat foot technique ;) It is ok to do the same exercises that have been presented above for ankles but for the flat foot? I mean those silent ones, without pedals etc. I have plenty of time just by sitting at my computer at work and have this feeling that helps ;) I'm asking because I've heard many opinions that say: train only with your pedals, silent trainings can be harmful for your technique or you can develop wrong muscels parts etc...

this is a tutorial about the ankle technique...not the flat foot technique 😀

Right now I max out doing 16ths at 180, (meaning what I can play cleanly and consistently for at least 1 minute). The goal is to be able to play this which is slower at 162 but a hell of a workout (my max time with that one is 2 min and I was dying) : kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJPUqIGlastnp8k and this one which for some reason feels easier to me... maybe because it's at 120: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m2LQkHinlrB8fKs and finally this one to complete the trilogy of double bass workouts: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYS9m6B5rKpletk which is also 160 bpm but much harder to me. Not sure if those are still considered 16ths... Also waiting to retire to have a little more time to practice and buy the course to support Marthyn of course. 3 more months!

Years to reach 200 BPM?! That's ridiculous. You wouldn't take years to reach that speed on your hands and it should be the same with your feet. There seems to be this idea that hands can progress quickly, but foot technique (especially double bass) is something you have to spend ten years in a woodshed to get anywhere. Speed is simply a matter of technique, and until recently, hand technique has been much better documented than foot technique. The whole thing can be demystified very easily.
