The hearts you see while Linlin is eating represent the souls of the kids she's eating even if she doesn't realise it since she's in that spellbound type of state. Also when the croquembouche start getting bigger, it represents she's eating them. Especially the biggest one, is Mother Carmel. It's really sad that even to this day Big Mom doesn't know what really happened to them.

BM's backstory is probably my favorite in the whole show, you fear her but you still kinda feel for her. BM is dangerous not because she's truly evil, but because she still has the mentality of a child due to being spoiled all her life. Mother Caramel never told her what she did wrong, the other kids never discriminated against her despite her abnormal strength, nobody told her about what she had done to the giants. When they left all of a sudden, she felt abandoned again, and Streusen came in to "guide" her (aka spoil her all the way into adulthood). Nobody ever allowed her to grow up, so she spent her life as a child, trying to recreate the happiest moment of her life.

Such a great backstory. Tragic, sad, but it never makes Big Mom a sympathetic villain, just a pitiable one. It also shows us that Big Mom may well be the naturally strongest character in the entire One Piece universe. Luffy used Conquerer's Haki for the first time at age 17, Ace, the son of the Pirate King, used it at 10, Big Mom used it at age 5 when she threw a tantrum about food. She also levelled adult giant warriors. She's a child that never grew up with a monster's body.

Big Mom is not my favorite, but she sure as hell is the most intriguing character in all of One Piece. Everything that happens in her life, including her actions, mindset and all the people involved with her that made her the way she is are worthy of writing an essay about. There is so much to unravel with her, making her both fascinating and tragic to observe. It's like the worst possible result of someone that has power and good intentions, but has a baby's mindset on how to go about life. It's like trying to change the world where your only source of information is the Teletubbies and people that don't care about your well being. It's ignorance and immaturity cranked up to 11.

I love BMs backstory. It explains everything about her. She basically still has the mind of a kid that never got disciplined because she had always been way too strong and/or her caregiver didn't care to do it. Everybody has to do what *she* wants because *obviously* that would mean that everybody is happy. And all her dreams are just a childish understanding of what Carmel had been telling her. Everyone is equal? That must obviously mean that everybody has to be as tall as her. Her character is 100% consistent and I love it. She might be one of my all-time favourite villains in OP. And the fact that she probably had the darkest backstory of any character in OP definitely helps.

Killing by cannibalism is so dark that only a desensitized person or someone who doesn't get it would react like it was a normal killing. It didn't seem like she put the pieces together. She thought Lin Lin just "killed them" and not "eat them". People who followed her one piece journey from the beginning should be able to read her reactions. Oda introducing the element of cannibalism into the one piece story is something no one ever suspected and therefore it was such a huge shocker. I literally couldn't stop thinking about Lin Lin actually eating everyone for a few days. It was haunting.

The whole thing about Big Mom having Mother Carmel's devil fruit is that technically when a devil fruit is eaten the devil fruit is like the rumor of the gum staying in the body for 7 years... the devil fruit is still in the eaters body... thus can be re-eaten hence why Blackbeard draped Whitebeard since there was no cuts on his body it's safe to assume his yami yami no mi allowed him to even suction out the fruit or even pass through his skin and organs to dig in his organs for the fruit.

Yes Linlin had a bad upbringing where she wasn't taught right from wrong and was never corrected of her innocent well meaning, but horrid mistakes. She even had the bad influence of Strussan around. That said presently Big Mom is over sixty years old. She's no longer innocent, she's no longer unaware of how the world is and works. She's fully aware of what her actions entail and is hard to blame her current crimes on her difficult past.

Late but might as well. It's theorised that devil fruit powers rests on a certain body part after getting eaten and Big Mom got her powers because she ate Mother Carmel whole. Maybe Blackbeard lied when he told everyone the darkness fruit could steal devil fruits. What i liked alot about this arc was seeing all of big moms kids. Guessing who was and wasnt her kids. Trying to figure out what their birth order was and figuring out who had to have a twin or triplet or even quadruplet.
