In France there are limits on financing elections (4600€ per contributor), all candidates have to disclose their campaign finance to a comitee as well as the list of their donors... There are plenty of ideas to "drain the swamp" (get rid of corporate bribery) and get the popular donors more power.

People have noticed things have changed in politics; it's gotten blood thirsty and brutal. What changed? Citizens United. They now don't have to answer to anyone but their donors. When I was young it was tax payers that funded their campaigns, therefore they had to answer to the tax payers. Now they only answer to the people who don't have to pay taxes - the rich.

In the 2016 election, as I recall, Fox News invited the Democratic candidates to a televised “Town Hall” meeting. All of them declined--except Bernie. I find it more important that politicians do their job and fixing the system than entertain us on late night every month. Perhaps my expectations of those representing us is too high of a bar. Capitalism is the least of our problems when we have toxic leaders pushing for exclusion of minorities and their voices in this country. Increased violence against minorities, stripping them of their ability to vote, villifying them at every opportunity. He’s a “Democratic socialist”, which is very different from “communist socialist”.
