A little demonstration of the ART ropeguide twinline pulley put to use on a big Oak removal job. This is also a great example of the advantages of highline rigging for removing trees over structures. Around the 12 minute mark is a bit of a close call! Check it out!

I came here for the art twinline demo, but stayed for the span rigging and explanation. Well done. To further help people understand the dynamics of a span rigging setup like this, this website does a great job of explaining the forces that are applied to the load points of the highline: www.ropebook.com/information/vector-forces/

Great video! I'd like you to go over his to set up the high line system from beginning to end in a video. I think I understand how to set it up but seeing it would be nice. Either way keep up the great videos

I actually did show the high line setup in a past video, if you check out the channel there’s another video where I show a similar but slightly scaled down high line in more detail and explain it so you can see how it works

You definetly need a climbing rope with a spliced eye that goes well on the cocoon and Not a sown eye: otherwise you can’t use one of the big advantages that come with the Twinline: in canopy retrieval and tie-in point adjustability. But you know that already. You might also wan’t to consider using the Bull-knot to choke your srt-rope on the Twinline: it doesn’t open so easiely. Thank you brother!🙏🤜🤛 looking forward to your next video!

Indeed! A bull knot would be a good choice. And yes If you look close i switched to a tight eye spliced Tachyon rope before I pulled it up. Someday I’m going to learn how to make the right splice on my Drenaline ropes, because I like them much better.

A few notes: When the angle of the zip line at the load is larger than 120 degrees, the tension in the zip line will exceed the down force of the load. While 'letting it run' helps to reduce a wild ride with negative rigging, it does nothing to reduce the foot-pounds of potential energy in the load. That energy has to show up as heat somewhere. The portawrap obeys the capstan law. The diameter of the portawrap does not enter into the equation. Bigger portawraps just take longer to heat up and cool down. Bigger helps when the work has to be interrupted for repositioning, rerigging or some other break, creating a cool down interval. Taking the example of a cpu cooler, the ultimate portawrap would have a radiator and ammonia piping to transfer the heat out of the protawrap. If glazed rope was costing you hundreds of dollars a year, such a solution would be cost effective. The downside is its big and somewhat delicate. Furthermore, ammonia is toxic and has shipping restrictions, so no UPS or airfreight. Many older farm tractors had a thermo siphon radiator which depended on the expansion of hot water to rise in a pipe circuit that has a cool water return from the radiator. These solutions put the radiators above the portawrap where they can be whipped by the rigging and generally be in the way. A more practical solution would be a circulation pump and a large bucket of water. Since the head and volume would be quite small, a solar powered pump could be used in most situations. It doesn't have to be run continuously, so you could use something like an electric fuel pump driven by a capacitor which charges from the solar panel and resets the pump when the charge on the capacitor is enough to make the pump work.. This thing would take up room in the truck and if it only is needed twice a year, is it worth it? Using a wet rigging rope changes the coefficient of friction on the portawrap, so more wraps are needed, plus it gets muddy if it touches the ground. Partly gritty, partly muddy, unpredictable!

Nice work and thanks for making videos that teach and aren't just egotistical bs. Not that it really matters, but that is what most people know as span rigging. Highline rigging usually has a stationary rigging point on that highline that you rig into. Doesn't really matter though and probably just my opinion.

thanks for the input! It would be helpful if the terminology was consistent accross the board. I hope I'm not adding confusion. You may be right.

Yeah those can be a problem! But it was a fairly new roof And didn’t cause any issues... in other circumstances however, yes even a small dead branch from 40’ up can punch right through 😬 I’ve had that happen.
