Hi Jess, this comment is for Ben-tern! I was inspired by him and decided to contact a local CSA farm and ask if they would let me volunteer once a week. I've never been to this farm before, or any farm, but I found them online. I've only been gardening for two years now, so I think I know how to care for plants without destroying them lol. I also offered my writing and research skills should they need it. They agreed and I can't wait to meet them soon! 😭

When I first heard Jess talking about Malabar spinach I didn't hear the word red. I ordered regular (green) Malabar spinach (and 2 weeks later, the red, too) and I am MUCH more impressed with the regular variety! It has more leaves, is a much more aggressive grower and the leaves taste milder! I wish I could show y'all 6 plants filled out a 10 foot trellis over 15'tall!! The red malabar is as Long but has a very sparse leaf population.

The one downside to closely planting peppers is harvesting, not for lack of peppers though! I always go very slow and calculated to get to peppers without breaking any branches off, but I also have a much smaller number of peppers! Something that may help you for next year: Plant your peppers by scoville scale. Plant bell peppers on the far end and give them some tomato cage supports (They will get BIG in that greenhouse) as you move down the line plant the hotter and hotter peppers. Perhaps put in some appropriately colored fence posts in the beds along the way?

You can smoke or dry peppers to preserve them. All the "traditional" pepper varieties are called something different when dried/smoked. You can dehydrate them in your dehydrater. Not sure if you grew any poblanos but they become anchos when dried and those are a real cornerstone of Mexican cuisine. But dried peppers, whole or as pepper flakes last essentially forever if kept in something airtight. I've never smoked peppers but I know people who have. I'm sure there must be how to's on the web somewhere.

@@Emeraldwitch30 I started by putting one in the lay away plan that locked in a sale price. A few months into my payments they were closing out the model and offered me a huge discount if I went ahead and paid it off. So I got it a ways ahead of schedule at a terrific price. The lay away is great to keep you on track. I am not affiliated in any way. Just a huge fan of freeze dryers. If you have ever lost a freezer full of food due to power outages they are a great alternative. Your bagged up goodies don't care if the power is on or not, and no freezer burn😁

I am just noticing that Miah has lost quite a few pounds. Looking good! That pepper haul is amazing. The whole homestead is amazing Jess. We have YARDS so why not DADS? I am officially using the measurement for my 6 foot reference.

Biting the ends to test of hotness seems like a perfectly fine way to identify peppers. Really there's only a couple kinds, sweet and hot 😄

Definitely Salvatore! That was my father's name and he would have gotten a kick out of knowing about a chicken with his name. His family called him Sammy, good nickname for a chicken too. 😉 💕👍

Ben is so sweet. He reminds me of my grandson Luke. He loves to garden with Yiayia (grandma in Greek). He loves to clean my veggies and bag them up and take them home. He loves to garden like me.

Your Ben is so much like my Kyle(7) he is always in the garden helping me and asking a hundred questions or seeing what is ready to eat. But when Ben did his little out of breath huff and puff it was like watching a blond version of Kyle
