Actually Kapplen tree service up here in the thumb of Michigan has a very similar rig for getting through rough terrain to fell trees. It is a beast of a boom truck.

Corvette dash at that. I would put an 8v92 with a Allison automatic. I mean big block chevy and a 3 speed automatic are for a pickup not a semi.

A BBC and an automatic transmission? Sounds like a monster truck wannabe with an old Peterbilt cab on it. Not saying that it's not cool, I'm just saying that it's seriously lacking in a lot of areas. Should have a big Caterpillar engine and duals on twin rear axles along with duals on twin axles on a regular length trailer. Great concept and I hope to see it done correctly one of these days.
