Another great vid Paul. I had only discovered you in 2019 but you have supplied me with hours of very honest informative and enjoyable footage while getting over a major operation. I like the fact that you’re not a complete tackle tart like so many others, only recommending gear that safely catches fish rather than trying to impress us with the size of your bank account. Keep doing what you are doing - it’s the next best thing to being on the bank myself. I’ll be watching you!

That rainbow trout jointed lure looked the business for pike - groovy.
@riverpiker7 жыл бұрын
The rainbow trout pattern was stupidly discontinued by savage gear a few years ago so i have no more shiny new ones. But i've got 5 in my draw that are all like that. So many fish. Great lure and simple to use. I imagine other patterns work just as well, i just had confidence in that one.
@pondguru7 жыл бұрын
Somewhere where there was trout cages and pike like loch awe would be so good for that lure - I can't believe they discontinued it but as you say the motion and vibrations from similar lures of different colours would do just as well. I know what you mean about having faith in certain lures as I have that with certain flies while fly fishing.
@riverpiker7 жыл бұрын
and that's a big reason why they end up catching. You know they work, so you work them properly. you give them the right time in the water and know when and how to use them. Just add pike and its a winner. I have a few lures that i have struggled to catch with and I always seem to put them on when it is a quiet day. That is no good. get them out when the fish are biting and they will catch.

Never been any good with big lures but going to give them a go this year. Some sensible tips here
@riverpiker7 жыл бұрын
Worth a go mate. Sometimes the big lure will tempt that bigger average size of pike. Might mean your numbers of pike is down.

Its my top lure since I decided to buy a sort of different big pike lures. I keep coming back to it, and its covered in bite marks. I've gotten to the point where I want to use it, but I'm too scared to lose it because its special.

we all have those lures mate, but got to use them. They catch fish

Andy, you have discovered my plan. Our lass is currently sorting my suitcase for me and i'm worried she's going to put things in that she alls "essentials" where I just see that's wasted space for lures on the way back.

@riverpiker7 жыл бұрын
I'm presuming big pike lures Alex. If he likes jerkbaits, honestly get in touch with Robinson Lures UK on facebook and get the trout glider (thumnail pic for this video). He does floating and sinking version. Also does a few other lures like a jointed trout, bream and more but i've not used those.

Great vidoe mate ! Also that squirrley burt looks like its got a longer tail than normal? Or is that just me
@riverpiker7 жыл бұрын
It might be i've not checked. It's not an original tail
@MrTestcurve7 жыл бұрын
Where did you get the long burt tail from Paul?

I get them from Robinson Lures UK who makes the tails. I think they are wolftail if large or cut down version for burt tails. they are spot on.

Hi Eric. As you might have noticed we are wearing the Leech gear these days and so yes we are going out to fish with those boys to finally meet them. We will also be meeting the guys at American tackle and guides Catchbigger.se. We also rather smartly timed it perfect with the live final of Pike Fight from Freewater pictures so we can watch the show and share a beer with some top anglers. We will do our best to get some video from our trip and we shall plan some future adventures with luck.

Nice video Paul! Very helpful! Do you recommend the Okuma Komodo 364 for big lures up to 180 grams? Or maybe the Daiwa Lexa 300? thanks and cheers from Switzerland!
@riverpiker7 жыл бұрын
thanks mate. My komodo 364 has been perfect for the big lures and taken some real abuse so yes i would recommend it. I've not used the Lexa but have seen some lads posts where they have said they are happy with it. So i guess it's down to your choice or budget. I think you will be happy with both

what type of trebles and split ring you used ?
@riverpiker6 жыл бұрын
I usually have a mxed pack of Eagle Claw 374 sizes 1/0, 2/0 and 3/0 and these fit most of my larger pike lures. Split rings, either strong rings such as the wolfram split rings or some cheap weak rings off ebay for the hooks
