With 113 aircraft currently listed as being part of the Air India fleet, the Indian flag carrier has been working hard to modernize its collection of jets and become a more efficient airline. In recent years, Air India has been continuing to take delivery of new Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners, as well as A320neos from Airbus. On the other side of fleet management, the Star Alliance member has decided to officially close the books on over 50 years of Boeing 747 operations. Most recently, the carrier announced a pair of massive orders with Airbus and Boeing - orders that will hopefully assist in securing the airline's dominance in the highly-competitive Indian air travel sector.

There is going to be major overhaul of livery design while keeping the Air India legacy. Tata’s array of companies are chipping in with their expertise. Taj hotels are working on crew grooming and Taj Sats catering. Jaguar-Land Rover design team are working on the new business class designs. Similar other companies like TCS is overseeing the website and app design and development.

Air India was also the leading airline in the 1950s ,even Singapore airlines took inspiration from Air India. But after the government took control of Air India in 1951, the airline started to fall down. Now, the Tata group has bought it and it is coming back. I just can't wait to see Air India coming back and rule the aviation industry.

The downfall actually started in the 70s when Mr Tata left. Air India used to provide the actual maharaja experience in the 50s and 60s. Hoping that Air India resurrects itself. Because even after the Vistara takeover, if Air India doesn’t perform, no hope for them now. I personally like Vistara alot.

Air india express will connect Tier 2 cities to Tier1/2 cities with their 737max. Air india express obviously wont have a business class product, and wont serve complimentary food and beverages on board. They will fly from cheaper airports to keep costs low and keep aircraft utilization high in line with other low cost carriers. Is this a case of over expansion and grandiose plans to sink the airline further into larger negative income levels just when there maybe signs of some small positive income from 2022 …
@nihalwarawdekar5025
@nihalwarawdekar5025 Жыл бұрын
not really, depends on how they pay for them. as of now, indian demand is largely catered to by middle eastern and european carriers. The goal here is to accommodate them with an indian carrier. Indigo, another indian carrier already has 500 planes on order and is reportedly considering another massive order in the coming weeks. They are doing extremely well, and this shows that the market is ripe for such investments. Cambell Wilson has emphasized that there are multiple ways that they are going to pay for these planes, and the delivery schedule stretches over a decade. placing larger orders gives an airline more bargaining power and helps bring down the per unit cost of the aircraft. Furthermore, the sale and lease back of these assets actually usually turns a profit for airlines. this is ignoring the massive equity infusion that has already taken place from TATA and SIA.

Not really bro. India's aviation sector is already world's third largest and is set to grow at a frantic pace for the next 30 years. It's estimated that India needs around 1600-2000 planes in the next 15 years alone. It's sad that the government didn't bargain for some component manufacturing and technology transfer etc like the Chinese did for such massive orders. Next 20-30 years is the golden age of India's aviation sector

@nihalwarawdekar5025 Жыл бұрын
@@chi-8289 some a320 components are already made in india (i think the doors?). Given that majority of these deliveries start in the latter half of the decade; there is still plenty time to set up manufacturing facilities and diversify the supply chain. last i heard the government was in talks with embraer and sukhoi to set up regional jet manufacturing. but given the sheer number of a320s on order between indigo and air india the government should negotiate an assembly plant here.
@chi-8289
@chi-8289 Жыл бұрын
@@nihalwarawdekar5025 Considering that a vast majority of parts (i guess close to 40%+) are manufactured in China because China gave massive orders in the last two decades, and since we are going to give massive orders in the coming two decades, we should do the same amount of bargaining to bring an eco system of aviation related manufacturing with capital investments from the two major playes, ie, Boeing and Airbus. It's a completely mutually beneficial scenario if the government pushes it

@@JohnB-kc3jx I have to disagree, Both A350-1000 and B777-9 have comparable fuel costs. Even though A350-1000 is smaller, it is lighter and more efficient. Hence why the fuel burn is similar per seat/mile. Flight from Delhi/Mumbai to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Dallas, Houston, Austin, Denver, Atlanta or Miami would be a big struggle for B777-9X because of the headwinds. It limited their utilization to just London, Sydney and or Singapore. Heck, even B787-9 have more range and is more efficient compared to B777-9X.

a lot of these new air india orders will only start delivery later in the decade (some are arriving now since capacity was available - aeroflot A350s, some chinese a320s etc). You will probably see air india lease a lot of aircraft between now and 2027 to be able to capture demand until then.
