And the Henschel DH1200 is a diesel-hydraulic locomotive, not an engine. The engine being shown is a French-built SACM V12 diesel. The last engine is at the Coolspring Power Museum. It is probably the biggest single-cylinder oil engine ever built, and it is believed to be one-of-a-kind. The company who built it also made medium diesel engines, which were used in Baldwin locomotives.
@g8ymw7 жыл бұрын
The engine billed as a Merlin has Meteor written on it's side. The Meteor is an unsupercharged version of the Merlin. Built for (amongst other things) tanks so some of the components are steel because weight is less of an issue. I believe these were built at the Rover factory

Anthony Butera Nostalgia class dragsters!! Whole lot of money , whole lot of noise.... little bit of performance!!! Actually not bad for an engine with less than 400 cubic inches.

What's the point of dragging a flat head 8? This confuses me. I'm sure they gotta have blowers or turbos to help them breath. I didn't know a person would want to put one in for drag after the 40s

the details on the Rolls Royce merlin clip is wrong, as that engine was the RR Meteor variant, which powered British tanks. They were rated at 750bhp.
@paulrevis69087 жыл бұрын
Jamie Norman the Meteor is just a castoff Merlin. An engine that couldn't, for whatever reason, be certified for aero use, or was merely detuned.
@jamienorman26227 жыл бұрын
It's not really a cast off. Yes, same engine, but made with different materials to cope with shifting something weighing 60+ tons at speeds of 20 odd mph at low revs. Not something at 20,000ft, weighing 8tons or so at 400mph.

Hello, I have to say Thank You ! For bringing to us ,a few engines that aren't often seen by the average man and have spent most of their lives behind tin on a plane or anywhere big torque is needed.There are many men that have spent many days and years .Developing these engines that have taken us, around the world for many a reason. Keep them coming !
@spikey27407 жыл бұрын
The first engine shown reminds me of the time I visited a nearby car dealership. The mechanic had just completed installing a 500+ cubic inch race engine in about an early 1970's car. They started it, and let it idle for a while as they checked everything out. Occasionally they bumped the speed up and right back down. It shook the building and ground. The sound was fantastic. It was obvious this was no longer a mild-mannered four banger.

The engines i build are just as effective as the ones i see here! The main thing to keep mind is to build an engine for a specific use! The more time you plan for the use the better your out come! Keep in mind "Safety" first; Next is cleanliness! My Volvo racing engines, Are designed by me; to "Kick-Ass" An take names! Remember it has to be Fun! Do Not build engines to destroy them; Build them to be able to extract as much power as you can with out blowing all of your work into a pile of non-useable junk! You will get more respect from your accomplishment faster than your boneheaded distruction!
@iancharlton6782 жыл бұрын
The Merlin is a Meteor….. effectively a normally aspirated derivative of the Merlin aero engine, built to power fighting vehicles, starting with the Cromwell tank. The engine was de-rated at around 600hp and lacked the supercharging boost. Also, many of the alloy parts of the aero engine, were machined in steel, as weight wasn’t such an issue
