They might shut down soon. No PGWP means no students want to study there. Plus, no way domestic ones will study there paying 4-5x the international fees. With no funding from the gov, I don't see any reason for them to exist. Some private universities might thrive now.

Another problem that started with students is home rentals, people started renting out houses and apartments by the room or by the person for more expensive amounts which led to more landlords upping rent fees and trying to exclusively rent to students and then families and non students are unable to find homes for fair prices especially any in the same area as the university college or downtown areas

Arbitrary immigration targets are simultaneously increasing demand and suppressing wage growth. There are better ways to control immigration. I would suggest demand based approach with some guard rails in place. For instance, I would require all educational institutions to provide housing for international student (at least 50%). Businesses should be required to provide accommodation to all temporary/seasonal workers on top of the minimum wage. In order to hire foreigners employers should be required to prove that he is paying enough to afford housing in the region (market cost of accommodation is less than 30% of salary). Accommodation for refugees should be secured before bringing them to the country from around the globe. No accommodation = no permits. It would limit demand and prevent wage suppression.

Very few programs have a May start date while announcing the changes now may mean people will be able to get approved for September 2024 start. What school is buying an mri machine😂 Even radiologist rarely see the MRI machine they get a video and diagnose from videos and images. Also how people learn. Understand that programs that have labs for example are more expensive to run which is what arts programs are the cheapest to run but expenses are not as high as you would expect for many programs. Many health related programs use students to train on and people take turns. Programs may no longer do things like regularly practice on each other giving IVs or at least get consent before doing things like giving your lab partner an ultrasound but teaching hospitals exist for a reason and many health professions spend their first year essentially learning how to do things after learning mostly theory.
@ImCanada8 ай бұрын
Yeah, that's a good point but I think you know what programs I mean it makes more financial sense to push
@amyseaden90698 ай бұрын
@@ImCanada I understand but provinces will hopefully make sure certain schools and program will get attestation. Student choice of program may also start changing as international students start realizing how hard it will be to get selected for PR with a post grad from a college in international business for example or other common degree. International students may start considering programs like nursing or trades. Sadly many have cultural beliefs that these jobs are inferior and white collar jobs are what is sought out. Sadly many trades would be much more lucrative jobs and easier jobs to find after graduation. For many, trades would also provide a much easier pathway to PR. Sadly many take advice from corrupt consultants in their home country or make decision based on family pressure or understanding of immigration. Immigration doesn’t even make sense for many. It may have made sense 10-15+ years ago but many families are pushing their children to immigrate to Canada, Australia, UK, US or NZ no matter what. Their expectation is based on the expat experience they have heard from friends and family for the past 40 years when things have changed dramatically during that time. Many also are not honest about their immigration experience or their current situation. People are making decisions based on what people say is their life abroad when they return every year for a visit, often with gifts and through social media, while not being honest about the fact that they are working 3 jobs and have maxed out their budget to come and visit. On the list of other immigration issues that need to be examined is parent sponsorship and current state of supervisas and whether parent sponsorship is feasible and given the levels of immigration does it make sense to allow a small level or just outright deny it. The H&C processing time has almost doubled due to so many applying for their parents. It was predictable but the cost to process all these applications and the stress that this is putting on the H&C system is ridiculous. The H&C system is already plagued by problems. I have seen so many cases where people are on their 3rd or 4th H&C application have never been forced to leave Canada. They keep on applying until they get approved meanwhile all these applications have cost the taxpayer multiple hundreds of thousands of dollars. Many who recently arrived and are unwilling to wait for their turn to get selected for PGP while many others have been waiting for over a decade. Supervisas length being increased to 5-7 years with the expectation that people will return home from this visit is also delusional. Although seniors do have to take out supervisa insurance it only provide 100k of coverage and it still places significant demand on our healthcare resources. In my opinion it would be much better to be upfront with people about their parents’ ability to move to Canada so they can decide whether immigration makes sense for their family. People are still under the impression that after 3 years of meeting an extremely low income amount and being a PR they will be able to sponsor their parents. Until their parents get PR they will get a normal TRV and then return home for a quick trip to apply for a supervisa. If they ever lose status, are refused an extension or are denied H&C they will just remain in Canada undocumented. Given our ageing population and our healthcare system in crisis we can’t absorb more seniors. No government wants to discuss the issue since it is a top 5 voting issue for many communities while many Canadians have no idea that you can sponsor your parent and grandparents with full access to healthcare. Only limitation is really access to welfare payments for 20 years and 10 years in Quebec. Sure many without a GP or on a waitlist for surgery, LTC, etc. may be shocked. Other big issue for Mark Miller to tackle is the WP market. Enforcing the residency requirement is also one of my pet peeves. Most PRs know RO is a joke and fly into Canada right before PR card expires or crosses from the US land border sometimes decades after leaving Canada. Many aren’t even reported after being out of Canada for 20+ years! Miller seems to be pretty intelligent and rationale so hopefully he will be in the file for a while and finally address some of the big issues with immigration and get systems running smoothly. He hasn’t returned the TRV processing that was changed around a year ago leading to exponential growth in asylum claims and TRVs being approved for tons of people with almost no savings and minimal ties to their home country so I guess I should lower my expectations. You’d think an asylum claimant ended up dying in a tent because there was no available shelter bed or approximately a billion dollars spent on hotel rooms in a year would lead to some action when it came to TRV processing but no🤯

Schools don't buy mri,s for nursing students?? Lol the students study in the hospitals and oversee mri,s and x-rays that are being done on patients and they study previous scans! And implementation is easy the schools only accept the number that they are allowed, it doesn't matter how many people applied for visas the visa doesn't enroll you! If you work in this field you should know this stuff, immigration is not helping us in the end anymore there are just to many, we have housing shortages and not enough good paying jobs for our citizens so how are gonna offer the few jobs available to immigrants? That's not fair, the people already living here deserve the jobs and housing first, it's common sense but it's amazing how our government can't handle common sense issues 🤔

Definitely, there's already conversations ( queens university, brock , Guelph, western) to cut programs in masters, raise tuitions and reduce coops. If provinces don't match funding, Canadian students should be prepared for an increase in tuitions like they haven't seen before

What about Sowp for spouses of current students in pgd program in a public universities?
@determinedheretic53448 ай бұрын
Current phd students are exempt. However future phd students their spouses will have little chance in acquiring visas. The UK now requires foreign students are not allowed to bring dependents. it’s the liberal’s fault for treating non-Canadians like voting chips nothing valued more.

"In the weeks ahead, open work permits will only be available to spouses of international students in master’s and doctoral programs. The spouses of international students in other levels of study, including undergraduate and college programs, will no longer be eligible." Based on the wordings, I think they're already going to reject new SOWP for those not in Masters and PHDs..unfair? Maybe..but rn they seem to focus on Masters and PHDs..it won't affect SOWP extensions I think but new applications for SOWP mostly might be denied..but best u can do is try?🤷♂️
