Some great footage. Flew around the Aleutian Islands a lot on Reeve Aleutian Airways Lockheed Electras back in the 80s 90s. Love that plane.

It's not alone! There are some others badly in need of a re-spray, on the video.

Most of these were cargo carriers that flew from Miami to Central & South America and the Caribbean up into the 1980s and a few later than that. A number were lost in fatal crashes as the maintenance was often spotty.
@classicairlineractionfromavion9 күн бұрын
Indeed they were. The video features several aircraft that later crashed plus an account of a three engined takeoff after an argument between the captain and the flight engineer!

@@classicairlineractionfromavion I read once the Andes mountains in South America is littered with wreckage of those old planes. There's just nowhere to land in that area if it goes down. Sad end to such beautiful old planes.

Martin 4-0-4
@classicairlineractionfromavion7 күн бұрын
It's a Martin 404, an upgraded version of the Martin 202 which was not a very successful design. Outperformed by the Convair 240 - 400 series, it did not sell well.

Hmmmm nobody mentioning the taxiing plane with gorgo(?) hold door open and boarding ladder dragging on runway @1:08 😮🧐🤔
@classicairlineractionfromavion5 күн бұрын
It does look odd, I agree. But it was standard practice, as all cargo aircraft had to go first to the Miami Customs' ramp and then move off to their actual arrival point. The full video has several examples of this. It does look as though the ladder is dragging on the ground but actually it's just clearing it. My recollection of flying on a DC6 is that the Douglas-supplied folding ladder was a bit of a faff to stow, so I guess this arragement was just easier.
