I saw something really neat that uguys might think about. When u unhook your airline take a dummy one and hook it up and that keeps critters from getting in and plugging up your airlines. Put the dummy ones on both sides of the system. So going down the road and u see sign that says 12.6 do u let the air out of your seat? Lol
@bigtruckbigtravels10 ай бұрын
We don't show it but that's what I do when disconnected. I have a holder on the trailer now too. So we're trying to keep out dust and critters.

In addition to the tug test I recommend sticking your head under the trailer and looking up to make sure that the loch bar has across the pin.

4k for service on the Volvo seems reasonable to me. What I hear that service on the big trucks can get expensive. 150k miles is almost a new truck. Like your videos.
@bigtruckbigtravels10 ай бұрын
Thanks, Greg. Just broken in at 150K...we think with the modifications we've made that probably a few items got "out of spec" and thus the need for us to "clean it up" since it wasn't clear from whom it may have been created. The truck has been great for 8 years so no complaints. Big check to write at one time...gulp!

The reason for the ground shaking when trains pass, is you are located in the New Madrid earthquake fault zone, which is composed of silt from the Mississippi River over the eons. New Madrid is just north of you on I-55 near the Missouri / Arkansas border.
@bigtruckbigtravelsАй бұрын
😆 🤣 that's good. We'll have to leave the New Madrid zone then.

I worked for CP Rail in a couple of different rail yards in the Vancouver area. The most important thing when a train is in the "yard" is that they must know exactly where every single rail car is located. My job was to walk up and down the different rail lines in the yard and write down the name and number of every car and which line it's on. I'd do 2 different lines at the same time. On average, I think I probably walked at least 5 or 6 miles every single day. Most of the time I loved it because I was outside in the fresh air, seeing the sights and getting paid to do it. That was around the time that the very first "Sony Walkman" came out, so I was well prepared for my work. Of course, Vancouver and winter means drizzle and lots of it, i'd have to go out with a plastic poncho on while being careful not to get the page I was writing on totally soaked. It was pretty miserable. Oh, I forgot to mention all this was done on graveyard shift. Good times.

New subscriber, and I find you do a nice job of editing on your video's. I very much like the banter within the cab, letting us all know what's going on and such, and I've now heard a couple times your 'Alaska Adventure' of which I've not seen yet, so I'll have to look for that when time allows! We've been up to Inuvik once along the Dempster highway, but that was in our old Chevy pickup, with nothing more than a 'camperette' on the back, with a bed and 2' X 2' counter to work on, back when we where in our twenties, and had much more energy than today. Caught a lot of fish on some of those streams along the Dempster too, and then spent some remaining weeks making memories in touring Alaska! Have done one trip since, and as always, look forward to another trip up that way some day!
@bigtruckbigtravels7 ай бұрын
Now that is some adventure travel back then! I'm sure the Dempster has changed a lot but we really enjoyed driving up to Tuk and camping on the shore of the Arctic Ocean. Thanks for watching the channel.

I think solar farms are a waste of massive amounts of land with as inefficient as solar panels are. There are much better methods of energy production that require less land use.
@bigtruckbigtravels10 ай бұрын
Solar is definitely an inefficient means of power production but they are relatively low maintenance and are usually placed in areas that are not very populous...it's an interesting dilemma. Similar to wind turbines as well.

I'm a truck driver and when I retire since my wife will never attempt to drive a big truck with a spacecraft trailer.... I think my HDT truck will have a regular manual transmission. For the last 3 years my trucking company only buys trucks with the automatic transmission and I really miss the manual transmission.

We really like the convenience of the automatic manual i-Shift tranny. In traffic, it saves the left leg! Understand completely about the desire for manual. We had a Mazda with a 5 speed and loved it.

Did I see the trailer jacks up when you did the pull test. I used to retract them so they were about a couple inches off the ground, that way if it came loose on the pull test the trailer doesn’t drop on the truck.
@bigtruckbigtravels11 ай бұрын
Good observation, Barry. They were retracted but the pads were still on the ground. Our hitch is fairly deep and wide so if it did come loose then our nose would ride on the end of the 5th wheel plate. It's a good idea to leave the jacks down a little instead of fully retracted. I may change this in the future. Thanks

Aww that is so precious!!! Your grandchildren are so precious, I love to see family being close and happy like that! It’s really something that you have had that truck eight years and have less then 150k miles, that’s crazy!! Lol. I have trucks that are 8-10 years older that has 800k, to 1 million miles on them! Lol. We average more miles in one year than you have put on that truck in eight years, that is impressive. That truck will last you all the rest of your life, the way y’all take care of it.

@ferraritoybox9 ай бұрын
that's ok on dumping the air bags that's what all trucks do that have that ability, as you try this out you will see how well this works, 1 other thing I always put 3/4 inch plywood about 15" square under the landing gear legs so as to spread the load of the trailer cuz sometimes you drop it & may 1 leg sinks into the soil then it's hard to get the trailer hooked up I even do it on any surface just 2 be safe

Thanks for the tips! Appreciate your input on that. We're always trying to improve our process so we'll take a look at that and see what works for us.
