Detours, road closures, lost power, 50 MPH winds, deep ditches and desert. It's a Thousand Trails campground that is 4x4 worthy! Do we need Matt's Off Road Recovery? Where are we going and will we make it?
Well, of course we'll make it (and no tow truck is needed) but it's a road trip so you expect all sorts of conditions on the road. Our HDT and Spacecraft trailer can handle the winds but what about rail road tracks?
West Texas has oil and it's busy...but campgrounds too? Heck yeah!
We are not Snow Birds but we do like nice warm weather and heading west is the best. We are going to do this trip a little differently by staying at a Harvest Host right on the Mexico USA border. The Wall is in our "backyard". Oh my!
Quartzsite is all about boondocking in the desert and a great place for an RV to winter.
Come join our Facebook Group, Big Truck Big Travels to get more details on our travels such as Alaska itinerary, annual costs and such.

RV Camping
We like to "Switch it Up" between resorts and campgrounds and boondocking is always an option.
We draw inspiration from Keep Your Daydream KYD, Less Junk More Journey, Finding Our Someday and Changing Lanes. We normally travel in an HDT similar to KZbin channels Suite Travels and Watts on Wheels. I also get some ideas from the editing style of Happily Ever Hanks (Happilyeverhanks) #thankshanks and believe it or not, I actually learned something from MRBeast Mr Beast video's as well.
Our journey is the destination. We want to share in our experiences in our discovery of What's Next.
I get my music from:
Epidemicsound.com
Tracks:
Is This Winter Now by Shirley
Amazon Shop (no extra charge to you)
A convenient way to see (or buy) the items you see in the video's which may help in your adventure.
www.amazon.com/shop/bigtruckb...
We use the TSD card for diesel fuel and save a bundle each time we fill up our Big Rig. We also use it to fill up our Onan generator.
The big blue boards (XL version) we use sometimes to get us "un-stuck" is from:
Gotreads.com
Our Class C is built by Thor Motorcoach on a Ford F550 chassis. It's a production build Magnitude model XG32. We tow our red Jeep Wrangler Sahara behind it. We've made some modifications to it so that we can boondock comfortably. Lithium batteries, Victron 3000w multi-plus inverter, dual alternators charge while traveling and mods to the water system greatly enhance it's boondocking capabilities.
Our extreme completely custom 5th wheel is built on a semi-trailer chassis with air suspension and air brakes. Completely loaded it weighs 42,000 lbs rolling down the highway. And we do roll down the highway nearly every week. You see, we believe that if your home has wheels they should be used.
Vehicles:
2016 Volvo VNL780 "Voyager"
2016 Smart fortwo "Pathfinder"
2019 SpaceCraft Custom built semi-trailer 5th wheel "Orion"
2023 Thor Magnitude XG32 Class C "Curiosity"
2017 Jeep Wrangler Sahara "Artemis"
Power system:
3250 watts of solar with Panasonic panels
30.1 KWH of Lithium batteries
2- 4K watt Magnum Inverters deliver power as if we are on shore power
2- 4K watt 240v Cotek Inverters deliver additional power for our LG Mini split HVAC and stove
Coachnet is our roadside assistance company we use but hopefully we don't use them too often. LOL
We are not sponsored by Whataburger but I do enjoy them anytime I can get my hands on one. They used to be just out of Texas but they have expanded.
BIg Truck Big Travels video's are based on our personal experience and not meant nor portrayed as experts in anything we do or say. It's our life on the road and our opinions are not meant to be construed as advice. Enjoy life on the road.

Just love your rig ! The entire setup is great since you updated to an actual live tandem setup. I have had class A pushers since the 90's. Now that children are grown and we are both retired. Your type of setup would be perfect. Unfortunately, my health took a dive a few years ago. Unable to do now so our travels are with you and Suite Travels, Switch Up and Traveling Robert. You guys remind me of the way my wife of 47 years and myself enjoy being with one another. God Bless you all !

Love you guys!! I drove that "oil corridor" back in 1970. I had forgotten how BORRRRR-ING that stretch of road is.. I was on a trip from San Diego to Ft Hood TX, a trip of 1394 miles, and I did it in 24 hours.. Pecos brings back a "fun" memory... It was around 2am and the roadside sign I passed said "Pecos 10 miles".. Then what seemed like just seconds, there was another sign that said "Pecos 5 miles".. I needed gas and there was a 24 hour station in Pecos, so I stopped. After getting my gas, I mentioned to the attendant that there seemed to be two signs next to each other, one saying "Pecos 10 miles" and the other "Pecos 5 miles".. His reply made me decide to ask if I could pull around in back and take a nap.. He said those WERE 5 miles apart.. Its EXTREMELY fortuanate that 1) Interstate 20 in that area is nearly straight and 2) my car's front end alignment was good.. I slept about 3 hours and then got back on the road..

I’m glad that you guys made it to Arizona safely and that the weather wasn’t any worse than some high winds. Sondra, you crack me up with your apprehension and anxiety with low bridges, big humps and deep pot holes, etc. because that is how I am when my hubby is driving and it drives him a little nuts. The places that you take us are places I would never see otherwise and for that I thank you. Enjoy your time in Quartzite. Until next Thursday …

As a 40 year truck driver, I promise you it drives me up a wall to see these rude guys sit there and take their 30 minute break without a concern for who they’re holding up. Another gem, Sondra and David. Loved every minute, from the opening preview, the brief recap, you guys are entering Hollywood territory with your production quality. An hour-long adventure dramedy is what this was. I learned that downtown Odessa and downtown San Elizario are opposites of each other. On that note, I loved your adhoc road game (16:30-18:45) which I named "State that City" (a "punny" name - your humor is contagious). Yes, Pecos only works in Texas. I'd love a peek behind the curtain to see what exactly causes those clocks to change automatically when we cross time zones. This "eclectic" drive down that oil vein on I-20, past the cattle silage, and through the Mars-cape (45:15) was fun because of you. Thank you for a wonderful episode, and I can wait to see what you produce for the century vlog. Safe travels, and next time, do a Whataburger for lunch and save the cheese sandwich for dinner. 😁

We’re glad you made it. We left there this morning for a couple of days at our home base. We’d been there for two months. We’ll be back in a couple of weeks. And you’re right, it is more crowded than in years past. We’ve been coming there since 1999 and this is the busiest we’ve seen. We thought we saw your Smart car on our way out today.

Next time you’re having strong winds park where the cab points into the wind, it’s more aerodynamic. When I drove big rigs the company safety division told us to stay off over passes and bridges and find a spot to park head into the wind, I regularly pulled 80,000 pounds. Those drivers that park like that a fuel islands. I would jump into the drivers seat if the truck was idling and pull the truck off to the farthest part of the truck stop or park it into the street blocking traffic and call the cops!

@@bigtruckbigtravels Next time you're in this area you should check out Balboa Peninsula and the Fun Zone! There's a ferry that you can take across to Balboa Island from there (it's only like $2) and once across on the ferry you go straight on Agate then when it dead ends on North Bay Front you turn right, then when you get to Marine you turn right and there are a bunch of really cute shops and you can have a famous "Balboa Bar" or a "Chocolate Covered Banana" with all the toppings :) Once you're done you can take Marine back the way you came and that will lead you back out to PCH. I would suggest you do all of this in the Smart Car :) Let me know if you're going to be in the area and we'll come down to meet you!

Thousand Trails should be Thousand potholes. Lol. It's so typical of their roads. We love our Airstream trailer because in high winds it still pulls very nicely because the air "streams" over it. A really nice city to explore for their murals is San Angelo, TX. They even have a map to help you locate all the murals. They also have lots of painted sheep all over the city. And be sure to see the International Lily Collection. Also, next time you're in Pecos, stop in and see their museum. It has 3 stories of Texas history. We do everything we can to avoid driving through El Paso. Last time we drove through in 2023, there was lots of construction, narrow lanes, rough roads, and lots of traffic. Loved the video. We've driven that route many times. Oops. Looks like I posted twice by accident. Sorry.
