What a chipper couple. Just came across this channel and these two already convinced me to subscribe. It's good to see such a happy couple. Their attitude is conducive to peaceful living. Clearly they love each other and more importantly enjoy each others company. Beautiful rig. And glad to see them enjoying the fruits of their years of labor. Travel safe. 👍👍👍

I've been waiting for this video to come out. Ha ha. I'm glad we figured out the problem. I'm sorry I got the two lines swapped when I hooked them back up. Rookie's mistake, and I was definitely a rookie working on this trialer for sure. I'm glad I could get someone out to you right away, and you weren't down for days. That mistake won't happen again, that's for sure. Thanks for the learning experience. You guys are great, safe travels.

The main cause of all these problems is if the lines you hook up needs to. Be covered while un hooked. Trash in these new computerized air systems will shut you down. Case in point.

Thanks for the comment Tom. We've always had the lines covered on the truck but didn't think about the trailer. After a light hearted conversation with the trailer manufacturer they said they might start including covers on their trailers now. 😊

Lol. Great point! We always take lots of pictures of what ever we are about to take a part. And video so we can reverse it to put whatever it is back together. Unfortunately the Coachnet roadside mechanic didn't do that and basically put it in backwards. But we didn't want to throw him under the bus on camera because he was super nice and helpful and pointed us to a guy who had more experience. 😉

Well, you have your trails with living on the road like that, being a trucker myself, but I might give you just one suggestion for you to think about, your air breaks issues, especially since you are in multiple areas in the country, I have found it helpful to add just a little bit of air break antifreeze in the lines, to help keep them from clogged up, and when you release the air from the system, it cleans them as well OK
@bigtruckbigtravels
@bigtruckbigtravels Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip, Kenneth. I'll look into that product. Really appreciate your suggestion on this. I'm also popping the release valves on my tanks daily (or after a trip each day).

Well, I had thought you were doing that, yes you have to do it daily, simply because you are in different temperatures to create condisation in the air system

Dave, that's called a diverter valve. The reason they fail is because they have a small rubber disc in them. Once the start blowing air like it was you have to replace them. Most truck shops have them as they are standard equipment on trucks and trailers. There just a royal pain in the back side to change out. Also do a complete brake check. I see you have disc brakes on the trailer. But on the truck you have drums on the driver's. As for your steering axle you could have either drums or disc. While your at it check you wheel bearing oil on the steering since you have covers. Safe travels and roads Brian and Cindy, "xtreambydesign with passion"

Thanks Brian. Always great to hear from you. We have disc brakes all the way around...truck & trailer. You're correct in that it was a pain to change...lots of air lines going in and out! Lol. Fleet Pride called it a Spring Brake Priority Valve and they sell a lot of them!

@@bigtruckbigtravels Yep, I have replaced many of the both on the tractor and the trailer. I learned to always take a picture before I start messing with airlines. Also not sure if you do an annual on the big truck but we get one on ours at a truck shop when we do the oil change. Another reason since our trucks aren't used commercially and Incase we are ever involved in an accident I have proof that our truck and trailer have been serviced by a company that is familiar with the equipment of that size. Those valves stick when they get dirty, like others have said, drain your air tanks almost everyday and cold weather will cause them to freeze up. I have 35 year's driving trucks most northwest, so theirs alot or things like this is going to happen, good luck...hey, you should have a air bag leveling valve in the back of you're trailer, some of them can be adjusted for a softer ride, we used to bend the bar, but that's not the right way, a shorter bar is what you need.

@@bigtruckbigtravels I hope you have seen the Agawa Canyon around the Sault in fall. I believe there is a very nice train ride there. From Sault heading west and north all around the Lake and also West around Kenora is very nice. Your dollar is strong here now. The prairies west of Kenora are honestly not super exciting but nice long flat roads and four lanes for large vehicles. If you ever go west dont take the highway north to Yorkton. Stay on the main road towards Regina. I am glad you have seen a bit down east. You would love the mountains once you get to Banff and west or north to Jasper, I grew up east of the Sault. I own semi trailers and in the past I have had bees get in the trailer air system because I didn't cover the air lines on the front on the trailer while it wasn't attached to the truck. The bee's crawl into the lines then when you hookup and put the air to the trailer the bee's get pushed into the system and can cause problems. Semi trailer stores can sell the glad hand covers that you can put on the trailer when your truck is not attached.

So as a few have mentioned cover the air line connections when not in use. Also the truck most likely has a air dryer. Have that serviced. I couple times during the year, I add a teaspoon of airline oil or ATF to the airline that comes off the compressor and also to the supply line to the trailer. If the truck is equipped with a dryer than add to the out put line from the dryer. This will keep all those rubber seals working. Safe travels

Carry a bottle of air line antifreeze. It’s true purpose is to thaw frozen parts but it can also give the system enough moisture to break that stuff free and will still evaporate. It’s not great for a system but ok in a pinch. Pour it into your red line off the truck then hook to trailer and charge trailer.

The majority of the time there's just some dust or a small rock keeping that valve open. Apply air and take something like a screwdriver or pen and shove it up on the valve inside the bottom hole, it will take some reasonable effort to move the valve but it normally will get it to seal up pushing on it a few times
@bigtruckbigtravels
@bigtruckbigtravels 2 жыл бұрын
I tried the screwdriver route and it would not engage. Covering up the vent though, did allow it to build up enough pressure to pop it. We just felt that the safer route was to replace it. Thanks, Tony, for the comments.

A lot of times those valves will either freeze up or get a little bit of stuff in them and you do literally just tap them with a hammer a couple times. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. Also make sure you have your airlines hooked up correctly. You’d be very surprised how many people make that mistake and they have the blue and red reversed.
