The steering wheel control module for a series 1 au falcons from aerpro have been discontinued for 3 years. I called up everywhere to find one, and luckily I found one from an autobarn in rural qld. Getting shipped to me in the next week or so, very likely will be the last new one in existence. Very pleased I found it before this video came out because someone else might’ve bought it 😂 great video as always Sean

Back in 2017 I had a similar problem. I called up TDJ (Aerpro) to enquire on a steering wheel control harness for an AU1 and they told me they had only a few left in stock of them as they weren’t making them anymore. They sent it to a car audio shop in Adelaide and I picked it up, cost $100 Still in the same car today.

The unit itself looks good, just a shame the screen isn't scaled down a bit for the AU, still if you don't use those buttons much it wouldn't really be that much of an issue anyway with how adjustable the screen position is on that unit. The worst part about buying those units for older cars is trying to find one to match the design of the dashboard. Still waiting for the next Ralliart video but obviously that will take some time. Still nice to see another AU video though.

Have to say I’m envious of the aftermarket support the AU gets compared to the EL and older. I’ve thought of putting a modern DDIN head unit in my EL Ghia, but no-one makes a suitable facia and any standard DDIN head unit would look silly without one. There’s also no adapters I’m aware of to make the premium sound amplifier hook right in. Regards the head unit in your AU, not my cup of tea but seems like a pretty good unit for the money. Good stuff as always 👍

The interesting thing that will set it apart from other screens is weather and how hot it gets in vehicles in Australia. There was a huge problem with a couple of brands and how they stopped working and people were left with black screens and the companies that did suffer from this issue had allowed for the temperature in the northern hemisphere but not how intense the sun is in Australia. After they sent a representative down to Australia and they did testing they either fixed the issue or refunded people and stopped selling their products in Australia.

I've got a Joying brand 8" Android in my EB, and a Eonon brand 7" Android one in my AU. I cut up the Aerpro surround and made it sit at an angle facing more upward. The Android dropdown menu useless where a 2din is flush, it's just too low to see it!

The no maps thing isn't an issue as most people would want to use Waze anyway, and is likely a lot better than the built in system.

The no maps at startup shows that it for the peasants out there. Like WTF? If I were offering a product into the market place, I'd never in a million years allow my product for sale like this. It reeks of amateurism IMO. Couldn't they bypass/disable/hide an unsupported feature? Think about it - they're taking the piss.

Do you think it will tilt by itself driving on the rough as guts roads around Byron Bay? I'm lucky to get a year out of a decent quality windscreen suction cup with my phone mounted to it before it tears the suction cup and the phone mount apart. To be fair this is in the front of a tow truck which is a lot rougher than a car, and I do about $100,000 km a year.

I doubt it, but if so it can be locked off with the included screws. Just for my use case it was more convenient to leave it movable.

Not overly keen on these screens. Different strokes for different folks. I'd be worried about that boot up time if it only goes to 'sleep', that it's not pulling a bit of power from the battery. Driven everyday it'll probably be alright but if you leave it for a few days... might be a different result.

Yeah I'm trying to figure out which way I want to go with my '11 Terry for the same reason. The Aeropro looks dicky with the offset HVAC controls, but presents a more cost effective option over the Kayhan which looks cleaner (at a significant price premium). There was a limited run of another Android unit for BA/BF/Territory a few years back but stock is long gone.
@TheBobruub1 Жыл бұрын
@@MitchZero9 I got the aux in mod and small bluetooth receiver but it's a bit sketchy. IMO the Aeropro and Kayhan units just look so... generic and given the cost I'm happy to put up with sketchy. And I do love the little LCD screen, so retro.

I understand why you would consider, such a unit but sorry to say I think it looks hideous and destroys the interior appeal of the car. This is just my opinion of course. Did you consider installing one of the bluetooth devices like you put in the Fairlane many moons ago? Of course that isn't as functional but still maintains the cars character
@MotoringBoxTV Жыл бұрын
The head unit in my AU actually had an identical setup to the Fairlane - a bluetooth module hardwired in. Pretty decent, but after you've had a taste of Android Auto it's harder to go back to that and find it enjoyable. I was also not a huge fan of the stock AU headunit anyway.

ive always been torn between buying a china unit and not wanting to waste money on one if it turns out to be total rubbish. in saying that most of the modern, even high end conventional brand name units are just as trash, if not worse in some ways. Googles android auto is a fucking joke. Even as a long term Android user and tinkerer, i will admit that Apple's carplay is far superior in almost every way. Fwiw, all of these chinese units have basically come from one or two origins, they are all the same with different "brands" put on the splash screen. Easiest/fastest way to distinguish between them is to litterally just look at the hardware specs. You have old intel based units which are long obsolete and then you have the ARM varients which from oldest to newest were 1gb+16gb, 2gb+32gb, 4gb+64 and the latest 6gb+128gb. These numbers just correlate to the ram capacity and the storage capacity. In regards to processors, they can vary a little bit but not much. Basically all you need to worry about at this point in time is, the bigger the number, the newer and more powerful it is. You'll even notice the newer units have newer versions of android. As for the OS, they all use what is known as android automotive OS (even brand name units like pioneer and kenwood) which is not to be confused with android auto. As for the interfaces, they are just custom launchers. You can easily change them out for different ones, though finding an automotive orientated launcher is limited. Unfortunately even as a somewhat mature product the software/hardware still suffer from weird bugs and quirks, that makes me shy away from recommending them to people.
