Oh my goodness! Jeremy and Meghan are so funny together, discussing the stone project. What interesting ideas he has! It will be fun to see this project progress. Gardens need things besides plants that make the plants really stand out. The new stone “outcrops” are really going to mix this garden up. I also love putting veggies in the front yard!

".....to be able to shape something that's not just a collectors garden, but also very pleasing to the eye. Both at once." Well said, Jeremy. I love that! Gardening goals! HortTube YT channel goals!

I have stone borders around my beds and I’m always amazing at what pops up all by themselves between the stones. I have a fern that grew and now delphinium that seeded itself. Not to mention moss, which I love.

What a great video! Here in the Hudson Highlands, rocks come with the territory. I have been using a lot of small campanulas and sedums in the interstices of retaining walls and the natural rock. Plus some interesting plants from Plant Delights. Thinking about the different biomes is very helpful. I look forward to seeing how this project plays out. Please provide lots of details about the plant materials.

Thank you for this great segment! Love how varied your content is on this channel. How do you prevent weeds and grass from constantly invading between the rocks? We have large boulders as a retaining wall. We love how it looks but hate the constant battle - grass is choking out the plants we tried to place!

Jim, I really enjoy your videos and have gotten a lot of good ideas from you (like getting a leucothoe and an osmanthus), but it's not so easy to "live for awhile with" the plants you get before putting them in the ground when they don't come in 1-3 gal. containers. I have 3 mail-order bareroot tree peonies waiting to be planted this weekend and have no idea if the spots I'm going to put them in are good ones. I suspect there will be some transplanting next Spring. The same goes for mail-order plants that come in small "grow" pots and are less than 12" tall.
@davidc7151
@davidc7151 2 жыл бұрын
You could always just put them in a pot with a basic potting medium and keep it well watered for a few days until you put it in the ground, right? That's basically what they did with the tree in the veggie garden in this video!

This will be a beautiful project when completed. Question, when planting a shade loving plant amongst the rocks, do you need to be concerned with heat generated and reflecting off the rock to the cool loving/shaded plant?

I have a “PotLifter” that I bought on Amazon. Supposed to lift up to 200 lbs. We use to move large/heavy pots with small trees and have used with some pretty large rocks also. Especially, if only moving rocks a short distance. Requires two people, each holding one of the handles. Not sure if will work for your situation…but worth looking at the KZbin videos about it. Good luck!
@databang
@databang 2 жыл бұрын
@@mdwalker3034 I like that potlifter gear, just need a "sucker" to 😏help. Specifically in my situation, is to lift/pull/drag 2 large tapered obelisk shaped 1’x 2’ 200lb+ out of a 2 foot hole in clay soil, then move it laterally 10 feet and rebury it. I have some pulleys but was wondering what landscapers might use for the occasional heavy lift. However, your suggestion is well within budget, and a good excuse to phone friends.

Totally random question: I think I know where this is in Raleigh. I thought that area was on septic and not sewer. I have always struggled to plant and have machinery etc around my septic tank and drain fields. Is he putting all this material on his septic system? Again, totally random, but it’s what came to my mind 😂

YEP...walk away..Get out of throwing distance when a couple argues..Who studies history of plants seriously? As a trained MFT Counselor, I would have a lot of advice for this couple. Building massive and impressive is a symptom of something else seriously wrong in this case I fear and it is not to be creative...
